If only there was status for the security queue

Reminds me the security check scene from 'Up In The Air', so funny :)
Its all about choosing the right queue...
Except of course when they have people 'guiding' you to the correct queue.

I too stand laptop/liquids bag ready, and wear slip-on shoes when travelling. All my loose bits n pieces (phone/wallet etc) are either in a jacket or bag pocket ready to extract back onto my person as soon as i've been through security. I'm still tweaking my method, but I have it down to a pretty decent art now.

I managed to miss any priority lane at Changi twice. Holding F ticket on SQ, the lady in front of me noticed my boarding card says - "you should just walk up to the front" Told her the plane was not going to leave any time soon, so why look like a snob and push in, I would only have to sit with everyone else again on the other side of the scanners.
Will be back at Changi next month, will take a serious look to see if there is any priority lane.

Unless you have a minder, I don't recommend this. Even with an AF staff member I almost got in to a physical altercation while boarding the plane. Mr Y+ wasn't happy being made to wait.

I really don't get people like this. His seat is not going to change because you get on first. The plane is not going to leave any later. It's utterly irrelevant whether you get on first or he does.

And I say that as someone who has spent most of his life not being in the fast track lane.

To be honest, I've never really understood priority boarding [for airlines that don't encourage everyone to bring stupid amounts of carry-on]. Surely if you're sitting in the lounge, you're best served by being able to stay there as long as possible and board last ? That's what I always do.

For quite a few years at T2 SYD when flying Q, Rex and Jetstar I would automatically head to arrivals downstairs and go airside at the single security queue there. Much faster and friendlier. These days of course it's Premium entry with VA, but downstairs is the go and brings you right up at Rexy or the soon-to-be-gone T2 Qpub

I agree with the idea of being prepared for security.

I tried to put my organised bag on the scanner at Auckland to promptly be shifted behind the women fussing over everything in front of me.

I was 2nd to board a VA MEL-SYD earlier this week seated 3F. There was no overhead baggage space at all left - none! Mr 3D stowed three rollbags there and some crew stuff took the rest. I stowed my one laptop bag above 3C. Then I watched the fun as all the other 3/4 row pax jostled and ended up placing bags in J (no J pax at all on this one)

When I came into LAX T5 on VA1, I was waiting to pass through US immi control. A CBP woman (I presumed), directed me into the US citizens line. I tried to tell her she was putting me in the wrong line. But she insisted.

So I join the US citizens line.

I was 2nd in line & a VA guy asked me if I knew I was in the wrong line. Jokingly, he asked me if I was applying for refugee status for America.

Many Border Security guys are interested when I write train driver on my card. One US guy thought Australia didn't need trains because we're an island. An English guy in France said to me "So you're going to relax & let someone else do the work for a change?" before I boarded Eurostar. (I would have loved to have a go!)

I think it's just peoples mentality.

I equate it to when you are driving on single lane open road. You'll be in a 110km/h zone and the person in the lead is travelling at a consistent 100km/h, passing lane comes up, you go to overtake and before you know it the same person is travelling at 130km/h so you can't pass? It's not going to affect them if you do pass, but they are determined to stop you...

Had a guy in the US start chatting to me at a bus stop, asked me where I was from then when I said Australia asked me "You guys got democracy there?"

His seat might not change, but whether there's enough room for his roller bag may well change. Flying weekly (or more) on Qantas, who do not charge for checked luggage, I've seen plenty of people unable to fit their begin an overhead locker.

I had a lady in Portland, OR on a tram hear my accent and asked me if I knew Steve Irwin (was many years ago). When I said no she had a look of shock and 'why not?' on her face.

I've also had people ask if PER was 'Near Sydney?' when I said I was from there.

Many believe we have pet Koalas too.

I've found Californians to be the most 'educated' about Australia, but that's no real surprise I suppose =)

I mostly travel with one hand luggage and one "personal item". If I get on late on some flights, I find all the overhead buckets in my area are taken up, as some people think it's alright to bring on 2-3 hand luggage items each. I find this to be especially a big problem in the US. People bring on (and get away with) bringing on 2-3 items each.

Qantas are very strict with enforcing max 2 hand luggage. I noticed many times pax (even black CL tags) being forced to check in their 3rd item at the gate.

If you have status you don't like Changi because there is no premium lane... on QF anyway

Exactly. I dislike Changi for that very reason. Can't understand why QF don't set up a separate line for status pax (except I suppose they'd have to pay for it).

You should have asked if George Washington was still President!

Perhaps now they are all over Dubai, everywhere else gets neglected?
