Nearly all of us have been at the airport one time or another and had a flight cancelled, or re-scheduled on us. Causing a delay of a few hours or more or even the next day.

A friends flight on Virgin DJ1593 MEL-NTL (Newcastle) on 25/1/12 was cancelled and Virgin originally re-routed them via Brisbane, but has now moved them to Friday from Wednesday.

Another friend had a Qantas flight PER-MEL cancelled yesterday (safety issue ??) but got on a later flight thanks to Qantas and only a few hours delayed. A few more beers in the QP.

Events like these are not such a problem coming out of ports like MEL, BNE and SYD where there are flights every 30mins, but more so for the distant or regional ports where you could face quite a wait if they have to re-schedule another aircraft etc. Unless there are major multiple cancanions, the SYD-MEL morning/evening shuffle flights could be left out of it.

My Idea is a thread for Qantas and one for Virgin where we can note any cancllations and discuss if any recompense was made by the airline in the way of food vouchers, overnight hotel accommodation or flight vouchers. There is a little of this information spread around the forum already, but doesn't have a dedicated topic of it's own.

A bit of this information gets around the Twitter world. But it's quite hard to track and often full of unhelpful language.

Perhaps we can keep track by quoting flight number and date ie; DJ357 27/1/12 This should help to keep discussions in some sort of order, and help with the search function.

Any one think this is a good idea? Where shall we put it?

How about similar to the IC hotel thread listing PC benefits just a simple listing (as opposed to a huge thread arguing about whether it was sufficient etc):

Date
Airline/Flight Number/details
Delay details (time, reason, diversion cancellation, notified in advance, return to gate etc)
Assistance offered

eg.

Mid August 2011
Qantas BNE-SYD
Flight cancelled post boarding due faulty throttle sensor
$15 voucher for food and drink, rebooked on QF flight 4 hrs later

Anyone booked on the flights below 25-1-2011. Are Virgin moving you to other flights or doing something else?

Just been speaking to a mate on Facebook , who was on JQ458 to Ballina/Byron this afternoon . The flight apparently made 3 attempts to land in Ballina in weather & ended up returning to Sydney . The weather must be pretty bad up that way at the moment.

It was pretty bad, particularly around the time of the second and third aborted attempt. Virgin managed to land about 20 minutes before the first aborted landing and about 20 minutes after the last attempt the weather cleared considerably. I was booked on 459 back to Sydney so once 458 couldn't land we were all pretty much out of luck and had to find our own way home as Jetstar announced pretty quickly that they couldn't get anyone on anything before the 29th.

Was last year and was flying BA10 to BKK connecting onto QF1. Was a QF ticket. A couple of weeks later QF sent a schedule change email for one QF1 from BKK to LHR, wasn't until I read it a couple of times that I noticed that the schedule change was 24hours
Took over a week to get it sorted.
