Iberia Aircraft in SIN airport

On Thursday 27th July/Friday 28th July I noticed an IB aircraft in SIN airport. It wasn't at a gate but in what I would call the parking lot next to the terminals.

I thought IB only flew within Europe and to/from North and South America.

Does IB have maintenance arrangements in SIN? Are they buying second hand aircraft in SE Asia?

I quite often see IB logo at SIN despite IB not flying there on scheduled service. But there could be lots of reasons - eg flying head of state somewhere, maintenance, painting, leased a/c, etc.

Iberias 747-400's are ex SIA, maybe they have mainteinance requirements that are carried out at Changi, or frequent charters?

Was hoping that John had spotted a new change in destinations. Oh well.

Yup - flying head of state is just a special case of charter.

In ref to Cabbage 74 comments. I'm flying IB from Madrid to Joburg in October. Never flown with them before; flying in D class, any comments ?

Actually, IB also flyes to some destinations in Africa and Middle East, like JNB, LOS, SSG, CAI, TLV.

Anyway, better if it doesn´t fly to Asia, so we avoid the temptation to use it .

Have you heard about the last news in BCN airport. A susprise Iberia Staff strike demonstrating in the runways. According to the news, around 500 workers took part in the blockade, using vehicles to prevent flights from landing in Barcelona and forcing them to divert to other airports. Around 100,000 passengers were affected by the airport disruption during the busiest weekend of the summer holidays.

My original comments were more due to the fact that I'm heading to BCN later in the year, and obviously have to go via elsewhere.

Some of their long haul aircraft are being refitted with new J layout which has "skybeds" Unfortunately I'm not aware of anyway of confirming which layout you will get. As far as I was concerned the service and meals were fine. I have heard a few people over on FT complain about check-in staff etc. But I had none of these problems.

Hi cabbage, I live in BCN and must say they are horrrible. Late, rude, constantly lose luggage and take no notice of ff level. I was in the LHR iberia lounge last week and could not get a seat as the crew for our delayed aircraft (5 hours) had taken all the seats!

Don't know if you are interested but Singapore Airlines now flies "direct" to BCN. In reality it is via Milan, but no aircraft change and much quicker than via LHR.

Direct is not the same as nonstop. Direct means same flight number. A nonstop is automatically direct, but a direct flight doesn't have to be nonstop.

Some airlines (see it quite often in USA but NZ also does this on Australia excl PER to US routes) have single flight number where there is a stopover and a change of aircraft (and often also a change of aircraft type).
