I was Red, now I'm silver...a newbies story [with a few slips on the way]

Nothing wrong with keeping a spreadsheet, us bean counters love them! I have one right next to me, with highlights and miles amd point estimates, dates and flight numbers.

In the meantime VA/Vecolity will not phone you back, nor will they respond to emails or social media (despite me having quite a few reponses of "Ill get back to you tomorrow"). Never happens so dont hold your breath.

Serfty, thought that VA only show last 5 trips, and not 365 dsys.
The default summary view is only five lines, but the detailed "My Activities" report that serfty linked to will allow you to show everything since January 2012.

If you fiddle with the site's script variables manually it will generate a report back to 2005, ie the beginning of Velocity.

So a valuable lesson is learned today.....

That's the spirit!

There is an awful lot to learn and remember within the world of FF miles. Even when you think you have it sussed, they go and change it all on you.

Stick with it and good luck.

(oh and by the way, most FFers know you cannot EVER trust an airline or hotel chain to keep track of your rewards that cost them money. Either you do it yourself.......religiously, or take pot luck with them getting it right)

I'd love to fiddle with VAs variables, even boot their variables with my size 10 boot (until they go cross-eyed) from time to time, but are you able to describe how I check my flights back to 2005? Also sounds like a LTG is indeed possible with backdated data.

I use Chrome as my browser but it should be possible using the debug environment of other browsers too. This might need screenshots but as a start I'll see if it I can make it clearer than mud in text form:

1. Visit http://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/MyAccount/MyActivities/index.htm

2. Select from "January" "2012" to "December" "2014".

3. Right click on the drop down box that has 2012 in it (ie the 'from' year) and select "Inspect Element".

4. It will highlight the line <select name="startDateYY" style="width: 100px;" title="From Year" id="startDateYY">.

5. Click the expansion arrow to the left of that line, it will show you:
Code:
<select name="startDateYY" style="width: 100px;" title="From Year" id="startDateYY"><option value="" selected="">Select Year</option>
<option value=[B]"2012"[/B]>[B]2012[/B]</option>
<option value="2013">2013</option>
<option value="2014">2014</option>
</select>

6. Double click on the two occurrences of "2012", type 2005, and press enter.

7. Check the drop-down box for the "From" month. You can now select "2005". Click "search" and you'll have all your velocity history in one convenient table.

In fact, you don't have to set the "2012" initially but I've already written that now, so it can stay.

Budget night so probably won't get a chance to try your advice, but thank you for that. It is much appreciated and I may have further questions yet!

mate...use me as a poster child for how to not do things :)

but life is a learning curve...now all i need to do is figure out how to get my opal card to work on some nth shore train platforms :)

You have done quite alright.

We all make mistakes. I stupidly left myself 210 SCs short of QF Platinum + Gold. It cost me ~AUD1200 to get those extra SCs.

Thanks guys for the support....and lack of judgement and name calling that I so richly deserved.

BUT the fun continues......so I logged back in to my account and I am 10 SC short for my run on Sunday.

So off i toddle again to VA...spoke to the lovely Mike...24 mins later was assured the SC and miles would be in my account...the SC are there but the miles are not.

I really cant face another 24 mins of VA hold music for the miles......but I am off sick so have nothing else to do....and I do enjoy chatting to Mike and his supervisor.

Maybe it will take my mind off the budget.....

So for future ref re multiple legs that then get changed into direct flights..how do I prevent having to call 5 times, getting mis-information and hours of panned music to receive the SC and miles ??

Re: silver or not silver...that is the question..

Hi strtrek, I'm really sorry you've had such a frustrating experience. Can you please send a private message with your Velocity number? I'd like to investigate this.
I tried to PM you but once again technology wins...or it may have worked....I dont know anything anymore......

UPDATE: tried again but got this

  • Velocity Frequent Flyer has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.
you're a popular guy/gal :)

Re: silver or not silver...that is the question..

So summing up

Its been a great learning curve....I never realized what a complicated maze this FF game is...

Some major points I have learnt..

VX and Delta flights only earn SC's and miles...NOT Flight status'
VX and delta do not get bonus miles for silver/gold etc.
VA domestic miles are 5 for $1 spend (on cheap fare)
VA international are by miles flown.
Family pooling collects miles and SC's but does not pool eligible flights.
Velocity phone team are polite and helpful, but do put you on hold a lot.
Webjet booking fee does NOT go towards spend total.

And finally, AFF is a great resource for info, and Velocity specific help.

Thanks again.....now on to booking the next SR....hopefully this one goes a lot more smoothly due to me now knowing what I am doing.

Karen

Re: silver or not silver...that is the question..

Well, this thread is all very Melrose Place.

Karen, do you have an ABN or do you have an employed/husband/friend who would let you borrow theirs ?

If so, three months complimentary VA Gold membership is available through Pilot Gold. You thence need to accrue 80 status credits in the following three months to maintain gold for the next 12 months.

Or am I over complicating already complicated things ?
