I vote for Christmas Island. The weather is great, plenty of rainforest & water activities. The people are great and you’ll be lucky to bump into another tourist, even at Easter! And of course the crabs are awesome to see. It’s a shorter trip though as a week would do.

Thinking a 4 or 5 days at Kruger, side trip to Victoria Falls then south to Cape Town for cage diving (allow a few days in case of bad weather) and then a friend suggested go to Durban to see Hluhluwe reserve.

Just remember that the distances are quite high. You would be best to fly between locations if you are pressed for time. We caught Rovas Rail from Vic Falls to Pretoria which was very pleasant but takes several days. We found that South African lodges are cheaper on the whole than those in Botswana. Where you go also is dependent a bit on what animals are on your must see list. We were after leopards so the private concessions abutting Kruger suited us. We stayed at Timbavati and Sabi Sand. Others who want to see the migration need to be more northerly. Four nights is ok at a lodge but I wouldn’t like much less. We used &Beyond last time and they organised all the connecting flights from JNB and between lodges. All the decent operators will do likewise.

We did the following itinerary
- into JNB and straight up to Vic Falls - staying at Victoria Falls River Lodge. https://www.victoriafallsriverlodge.com/ - in the National Park on the banks of Zambezi so get game drives and river cruises daily.
- flew from Zambia to Nelspruit and drove to Shumbalala (in private reserve in Kruger). Small plane from them back to Nelspruit. (Maybe it was Hoelspruit?) and flew to Cape Town
- After a few days in Cape Town we went to Winelands area, staying in Franschoek. Dinner at Tasting Room was amazing.
- Then flew Cape Town to Elizabeth Bay and drove to Plettenberg. Emily Moon Lodge was amazing.
- Back to JNB and basically had a day there only.

Spent 3-4 days at each place.
