So this is being posted in playground for 2 reasons:
1) I didn't quite know where else to post it; and
2) I wanted those who would shoot me for making such an outrageous suggestion to think that the headline were a joke
I had to make a last minute booking to fly to Brisbane on the weekend. Went down Saturday afternoon on Virgin (which was by far and away the cheapest) and then faced a dilemma on the way back. The Tiger and Jetstar flights leave more or less at the same time - the 20sc on Jetstar would have been handy for requalification purposes but the tiger fare was only $260 vs close to $500 for Jetstar. So I booked Tiger for the first time. I've been doing ~40 Jetstar flights a year for the last 3 or 4 years so I'm well versed with the way Jetstar works (and on the whole I think flying JQ is more tolerable than most).
The tiger booking process was far superior to that of Jetstar. I paid $35 extra for the exit row which is a little more than JQ but worth every penny on the 4 hour slogs to Darwin. The exit row meant that I had to checkin in person (even with only carry on) - whilst you no longer have to do that on QF and JQ the checkin process was relatively quick and painless. Boarding was efficient and the 'queue jump' was as good (if not better than) the Qantas priority boarding queue. The seats were more comfortable than Jetstar. The cabin crews were well trained and professional. The interior was clean and well maintained.
After reading and hearing horror stories about Tiger - it was actually pretty good and a world away from the likes of Ryanair. So much so that I've signed up for their specials email.
