Hi Aff'ers

ok, ill admit it, im a noob, a noob when it comes to all these fancy fang-dangled fares you guys and gals keep on finding.

Anyway i saw a great sale mentioned on Facebook, the BA ISALEAU fares which looking in EF finds the following rules:

V FARE BASIS BK FARE TRAVEL-TICKET AP MINMAX RTG

14. SYD-SIN-VN-HAN-VN-BKK
15. SYD-SIN-VN/3K-SGN-VN-BKK

with line 9 being a particularly cool one.

The question is, how on earth do i check availability and book it?
Ive got some time off in August so would love to look at doing it. Totally flexible on dates, but want to just turn around (done BKK to death)

Can someone please help this lil noob on the best hows and whys of search for availability then booking (the chap on FB said a TA would be needed) which im cool on doing, but id like to be prepared with availability etc first.

Cheers and thanks in advance!

So ill attempt to answer my own question, apologies to those who helped me out if I get some bits wrong :)
(i feel like I'm back in Uni and its an exam!)

So my actual need was to be in Japan for a couple of days. QF's Horizons sale has their J class fare at just on $4k JAL is higher again.
Anyway, over on FB a very nice chap Seamus posted about a cracker of a BA sale which is on until the 5th of February, and low and behold, it has some cracking routings available to it (including better ones than what i used for those who are a little bit Sleuth-ey)

So with a dual stopover permitted, the fare to BKK is ideal allowing me to do both SIN and NRT, the BKK flights, well they allow me to tick the JAL 787 box!

Anyway with a bit of help from EF I was able to check availability of the desired flights, although this wasn't as simple as there is also some equipment that I wanted to fly as a preference over any other (for example i wanted to try a JAL 787) so that only told part of the story. So step in the new TA. (see below)

So for $3011 inc taxes, surcharges and CC fees here is what I ended up with:
All booked in I class.

BA16 SYD-SIN 1530/2145 - 777
JL38 SIN-HND 0150/0950 - 767 but with skysuite II's
couple of days in Tokyo
JL 707 NRT/BKK 1820/2300 787-8
Overnight BKK
JL 708 BKK/NRT 0810/1625 787-8
JL 711 NRT/SIN 1810/0035+1 - 767 but with skysuite II's
Day in SIN
BA 15 SIN-SYD 1920/0605 +1 - 777

I'm not really in the need of SC's so most will prob go to AA. but for those that play the QF game its 520SC

Now the real trip and trick to this was finding an awesome TA to book and go through the permutations with, as I couldn't find a way to book it online (there may be a way but I couldn't find it) anyway Ive never really used a TA before, but the one recommended to me was great, she was super fast and had no issue working on it pronto.

The thing she did do was look at all the Japan combinations, HND, NRT, KIX etc in an effort to tick my desired equipment box.

I'm not sure if the forum rules allow me to post her details or not, but im happy to share via PM as she was put onto me too.

So thanks again AFF and community, and a huge thanks to my new TA.

Thanks ReLoad.

I have never presented my TA with this sort of routing before, so will have to test them out when the opportunity presents.

Excellent stuff ReLoad.

Apart from the price - it's all gobbledygook to me.

Hi ReLoad,

I also noted this sale from FB... so thanks for posting here. I am looking to take the longer routing via old blighty; post Simpler & Fairer[SUP]TM[/SUP] I actually do need the SCs!!

I am willing to purchase an EF subscription & get up to speed quickly on how to use the tool. Do you feel that is the best/ only way to search prior to contacting the TA (plan to use FB-recommended TA)?

Thanks heaps for any advice you may be able to offer :D

Similar to this fare, but in Y.. for the September school holiday period:

SYD BA x/SIN JL HND JL BKK BR TPE BR x/SIN BA SYD (stops at HND, BKK and TPE)

Comes out to be $1185 AUD (N class there, V class back). For comparison a simple SYD-SIN return on QF is asking for $10xx for the same dates and SQ wants $13xx.

Vinomofo is the best wine deals site on the planet. Good wines, real people and epic deals, without all the bowties and bs.
