I'm feeling dull this morning and can't work out what I am looking at in the Y->J points upgrade table from SQ. Heres a bit to help with my question:

Clipboard01.jpg

The different coloured rows refer to what? The legend at the top right says that pink = saver, orange = Standard and Blue = Full .... but what does this refer to? Initially I though this was the class of economy that one starts with ... but this can't be right as it would mean its cheaper to upgrade from a cheap Y ticket than from a more expensive one.

Then I thought it might refer to 'saver' business or 'full business' .... I'm not all that familiar with SQ, but from PER at least, there isn't such a distinction ... only 'business' - would this equate to 'full' business???? Or am I on the wrong track entirely?

I'm not overly familiar with SQ (will become more so when I start burning my Velocity Amex stash), but...assume the above refers to the 3 different 'classes' of award.
A class must be available to upgrade into, the Saver (if available) will cost you less points than if only Standard or Full are available.

Is there a J upgrade 'saver' award thats different to a J upgrade 'full'? I'm really unfamiliar and the table just doesn't make sense to me.

The way I think I understand it is similar to award flights.

SQ Award Flights come in three different cost levels - Saver, Standard and Full. Basically if there are no Saver availability left, then you get the more expensive levels, until there is no availability left.

I guess the same is for upgrades. If you want to upgrade, you need an eligible fare, but the price you will pay for the upgrade will depend on the capacity controls and thus how many of each level of upgrade award they release. For example, if a route is really popular that day, there may be no more Saver level upgrades left, so if you still want the upgrade, you may have to pay more points for a Standard or Full level upgrade. You don't get any different service or the like for the extra you paid; you simply paid more (just like not getting a cheap seat on a route and having to pay more for it than someone else who cashed in earlier).

I don't think there is a difference in regards to Business it just means you burn less points to upgrade.
If you are looking to upgrade to LHR from PER that would be Zone 8 - Zone 12 which varies in cost of points from 65k to 320k.
Hope that makes sense.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

3 tiers of for each award, yes, with points cost of each escalating, Saver being the cheapest (and least availability, disappears first), then Standard, then Full
Saver
Standard
Full

For Zone 2 in your table, flying within Zone 1...IF there is Saver award availability (you can see this online), it will cost you 15000 points to upgrade.
If there are no Savers, but Standard are available, the cost to upgrade to Business will be 30000 points
And if only Full are available, then you'll need to fork out 45000 points
And so on depending on the Zone you are flying to as per the table
the seats are the same, its the cost of getting them that changes on availability (similar to revenue tickets where supply from discounted fare classes gets exhausted and price rises)

Log into Singair website, search redemption flights and it will bring up the relevant availability in the travel class you have searched

KF have different level of awards (Saver, Standard and Full) for each class of travel (Economy ,Business & First).

Saver is the is the cheapest level award in points and what people would normally associate as a classic award seat the others allow ou to book on points whne the savers ahve been exhausted but cost significantly more points.

For example this is the availability out of Perth to Singapore next week

So the saver level has been exhausted (you could waitlist the flight or book a confirmed seat at the standard level).

This example is for an award seat instead of an upgrade but the same principle applies.

Ahhhh - thanks everyone. I'm quite unfamiliar with the loyalty scheme despite flying SQ often (always crediting to VA).

Thats cleared it up for me - thanks to all responders
