Was recently talking to an Amex lady in regards to travel needs, when she came out with "Oh my god, I'm thirty two years old, and you've been a member of Amex longer than I've been alive !" A quick glance at my card proved her right, I first joined in 1978, mainly for travel in the Singapore / Malaysia areas, but it just doesn't feel that long ago.

Anyhow it had me wondering how many other AFF's have been ongoing long time members of a rewards / finance card, and can anyone beat 1978 ?

Cheers,
Dee.

I'm not scared of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens! ;)

Haven't been a member of many things for too long but hope to be. I felt my age in a diner en route to Rapid City recently, the waitress was talking to another customer about how old they each were and comparing their final year of high school.

They thought the 80s was ancient. I finished in the 70s and told them I didn't feel old.

Re dying, I've always wanted to do a Billy Sneddon.

My parents were in the consideration phase of whether to have me back in 1978 ;) They must have got quite busy after that :D

I think I first got a credit card in 1989. CBA Mastercard.

My second credit card was Amex in 2000 and the first type of rewards program. The rest is work in progress.

I do feel old though....

Not a rewards or finance card but member of NRMA since 1976. Joined when my first car broke down at 18 years of age, only used it a couple of times since. (Appears it has been a waste of money) :)

Two days ago saw in our 27th anniversary as a couple.....25 of those living together, 19 married:cool:

Amex - 20 years
QFF - 17 years

Haven't started to feel old yet.....something to look forward too!

Pah! Noob. 40 years marriage last November. :D

I haven't been a member of anything for any great number of years, but my wife has been an RACV member for over 40 years.

I had to Google that Hvr. Me too, although I'm hoping for something a little moe upmarket than a Travelodge!

I had one of the original Australian 'Bankcards' in 1974. It morphed into a CBA Mastercard (which I still have) when Bankcard was discontinued.

1977 As a result of starting work overseas
Not used very much now...

Happy wandering

My first rewards linked card was in 2009 - ANZ, Shortly before I joined QFF.

Married in 2004.

I too have an Amex account dating from '78; from memory that is only shortly after they started operations in Australia?

I think you're correct, I had a Bank Card, but was told by an Elders travel agent to try a new credit card that had better acceptance in Asia, namely Amex; was a pretty green colour, and there were no rewards of any type. They upgraded me to Gold in the mid nineties, then Plat in the early twenties. I've never had any problems with the card or Company over this period, except some outlets that love to charge a 3% surcharge on purchases.

Cheers,
Dee.

I left school in NZ in 1971 and opened a bank account with the Bank of New South Wales in Tauranga, NZ. since then i think it became the CBA bank and is now Westpac. Even though I have lived in Aussie for the past 30 years I still have that account and still use it. I guess that makes my loyalty at 42 years

NRMA continuous since 1978 with maybe another 5+ years, but broken & prior to that.
This reminds me of when I opened a Commonwealth Bank passbook account (they were handwritten) in about 1967, when a small branch opened at Manly/Queenscliff. The account number was 407 from memory. I guess that ended up going to Unclaimed Funds many years ago, along with the Branch (long gone). Didn't need any ID back then from memory (at least I don't think I would have had any).

Have had an Amex card since 1977 , still waiting for my gold watch!!

Congrats! You must have joined in their first year of business in Aus. Shame there's no recognition for their loyal customers, a round the world ticket in J would be nice; wouldn't say no to a gold watch either.......Dream on.

Cheers,
Dee.

As AMEX is worldwide, accounts could have been established anywhere and then transferred into (or not with a mail address) Australia.
