West wings it to success

Steve Creedy July 14, 2006

THE parking squeeze is on at Perth Airport after a healthy 7 per cent growth in traffic in 2005-06 saw it top 7 million passengers for the first time.

More than 480,000 additional passengers, most of them domestic, boosted the total passenger numbers to 7.13 million. Domestic passenger numbers grew by 9.19 per cent to 5.1 million, reflecting the strong state of the West Australian economy. Here

I thought it was getting more crowded, and for once it wasn't just my imagination. Full 330's on a Wednesday mid day flight.

THE QF terminal is pretty full, and Qantas have a lease on it that doesn't expire till 2018. I am not sure that it is going to cope with the traffic by then, and there doesn't look to be much scope to expand it either.

Having lived in Perth now for nine months and travelling back to the east coast at least once a month and O/S twice I can see that the numbers reflect my perception of it being a very busy airport.
The 747 domestic flights are regularly full both ways. Its a busy airport day and night with lots of families taking the cheaper redeye flights making it very busy in the evenings and also in the mornings with all of the regional/mining site flights as well.

QP is packed at lunchtime with flights to 4 major domestic cities leaving bewteen 11am and 1pm. Hard to get a seat or a computer. Need to police the tiny business centre and kick out the kids that are occupying the 8 only computers.
Have not used the other domestic terminal, but the international check in is very modern and departure lounges and gates are reasonable.
