I am trying to get my partner from mainland China to Perth, without going via HK

Flights I have found are via Sydney - can you transit through Sydney or do you need to iso for 2 weeks? Then iso in Perth for 2 weeks...due to the closed borders

Using Qatar, how can we get from Mainland China to Qatar? Tried via Seoul but can't find flights out of Mainland China

Looking to travel on the 3rd July

Help is massively welcome

Hi @dwaddams and welcome to AFF.

Okay, so there's quite a bit to unpack here. First, it would be helpful to know where your partner is travelling from.

Second, do they meet the criteria to enter Australia at this time? Read here to find out more as to their eligibility to enter Australia.

Next, if they are allowed to enter Australia, they will be required to undertake 2 weeks in quarantine at their first port of entry. This would be Sydney in the above scenario. Only once that two week quarantine period is over are they then permitted to travel elsewhere.

WA has its own restrictions on entry. Even if your partner is allowed to enter Australia, they may not be eligible to enter WA at this time. Read here to assess their eligibility to enter WA. Should they be eligible then they will undertake a 14 day self-isolation period upon entering WA, even if they have completed 14 days quarantine in Sydney.

As you would well appreciate, these are not normal times. Assuming your partner is eligible to get to Perth, I'd be looking at any flight that first gets them to Australia and try to resolve onwards travel from there. It may also be worth your partner getting in contact with the Australian Embassy or local Consulate (assuming they are an Australian citizen). They may have information about upcoming flights that are not part of the regular schedule.

Welcome to AFF.As Gremlin has said they will have to isolate in Sydney for 14 days and again in Perth unless your premier opens the border before the end of july.

However to be allowed into Australia and WA they need to be an Australian citizen.Gremlin gives the link to how others might be allowed entry. But in my case although I am working in Tasmania as an essential worker my wife wasn't allowed to come with me even if she agreed to mandatory hotel quarantine on arrival.

Hong Kong has opened up for Cathay to Cathay transfers. Is there a particular reason your partner can't transit HK?

I didn't realise that was why mrsdrron couldn't join you there. Tough times.

Great feedback. All criteria is met for entry into Australia and the g2g pass is currently processing (allows entry into WA).

I’m trying to find routes from Shanghai/Guangzhou/Wuhan to Perth, with Perth being the entry port to Australia, to avoid the need to isolate twice.

I think commercial options into PER will be very difficult to find. You MAY be able to find a spot on a repatriation flight - contact the Australian Embassy or Consulate near your partner and they may have something that they are aware of but even then most are into MEL or SYD. I'd be fully prepared to fly commercially into SYD or MEL and take your two weeks iso twice.

Even if you can find something commercially, there is a risk that the connecting country(ies) will change its transit rules between now and then or the airlines will adjust their schedules at the last minute and services won't run. Far better to get back to Australia as a first step, imo.

Thanks Gremlin. I have found a flight from CAN to SYD, and my partner will need to iso in Sydney - hopefully the border restrictions will be eased prior to having to also iso in Perth...

I appreciate everyone's help in this matter and a big thank you.

Why is HKG transit excluded? It would seem a logical point.

Otherwise looks like Scoot is flying from SIN to both CAN and PER, and SQ from PVG
But I think at present SQ is only allowing transits outbound from Australia

From what I have read, you can only transit through HKG if you are on an international flight - not domestic.

I thought transit through SIN was for business travelers only?

Flights from China to HKG are considered international flights.

Scoot website - Please note that only passengers on Scoot flights outbound from Perth can transit through Singapore Changi Airport to any destination currently operated by the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group airlines - Scoot, SIA or SilkAir. Passengers will not be able to transfer from other points in the SIA Group network through Singapore into Perth.
