Hypothetically... If there were flatbeds by Jetstar... would you?

Hypothetically... (I know QF won't allow this because it will cannibalise their J and Y+ service but...)

If Jetstar purchased some 777's. Shoved as many lie flat (180* fully flat) seats in, they don't have to be sky beds I'd imagine herringbone would fit the most. Offered LCC (purchase entertainment, purchase food, purchase amenity packs) service for the cost of 175% of Y, with the points and sc earn rate of full fare Y would you use them to and from AUS to LAX, JFK and LHR?

For me this would be a resounding yes as the thing I value the most from J is the ability to sleep. I don't really care about the side benefits though they are nice.

I'd call it Flatbeds by Jetstar...

If recent experience is any guide, Jetstar is trying to prove that it's a model for successful debundling of services.

So in that respect perhaps they should take a hint from the masters (well, the plucky runner up) Air Asia, who seem to be doing alright by selling the beds but debundling the service.

Yeah the cheap air asia angle flats got me thinking...

It would be worth thinking about. How hard could it be to take a few snacks onboard to keep hunger away.

With iPads/iPhones IFE is becoming less important and the most vital part of J is the seat.

I'd definitely consider it given the alternatives. I think we're a long way from this though, but perhaps it's an idea for their 787's, assuming QF doesn't have a veto!

I would consider it, depending up the cost and time of flights etc. After all, I have flown Star Class to Japan as the time, route and price were a good alternative to others and it was quite a good service.

I am pretty sure the beds have a number of services bundled with them (luggage, meal, pillow, etc)

At least it would beat the current Star Class oops.. (cough) business class seat in front from being in ones face.

I would not fly Jetstar for reasons other than equipment in the cabin, and I dont think Air Asia are doing that well with their flat beds given the reported success by many here in getting the cheap upgrades!

Given the unreliability and high number of cancellations from SIN (based on my observations), I wouldn't fly Jetstar even if they offered me a first class seat on a Starter price.

Maybe but not with only full Y earn. If they did this it would need to be in line with starclass/business. After all this sounds like a better product than A330 business, which earns as J. I also not sure about the price point. Starclass was introduced as being 100% of full Y pricing. Given the number of starclass/business sales filling those seats seems to be a hard proposition. At 175% of full Y price, selling the seats becomes even harder even with a better product.

im not a fan of the current y+ starclass seat so im happy to slum it in the back .... however if flat beds were in, id definitely go for it :)

Flat beds are most important, but for me, purely for sleeping so as not to lose two days at either end recovering. Given experiences my friends have had being cancelled in SIN and stuck for 1-2 days, it could end up being a very expensive delay if you work for yourself and time = $ .

I think with Jetstar you always have to allow for the possibility of cancellations when making your travel plans. If you don't have the flexibility in your schedule to do that, then I wouldn't fly with them. Plan for the worst and hope for the best :)

I've flown *class and been reasonably happy with it, for what it is, so I'd certainly fly them if they had flatbeds.

Trick with the current *class (or whatever they call it now) is to think of it as being like domestic business, and make sure you either sit in 1a/b, 1j/k and stand your ground when they try to ask you to move for someone with an infant who feels entitled to those seats; or take 2d with nobody in front of you.

Certainly better than premium eco.Never had problems with cancellations or delays, but I've heard anecdotes.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yeah it would technically be a better product than *Class etc. This is never going to happen as acknowledged at the start. Just wanted to know if it's something people would consider as for me it would be the perfect product offering. The thing is as a standalone analysis (ie not looking at the cannibalism) i think it could make them money.

For an overnight flight, eg. JQ to resume SFO-SYD route, yes will definitely consider it.

A flat bed is heaven for me. I'll make sure I have a good feed and bubbles in the lounge :)

Ultimately it will come down to price v. Other full J products.
