Stayed here two weeks ago and will go again in two weeks time. It’s quite a nice hotel but they have to sort out some flaws in my opinion.
We were certainly excited to see the Hyatt brand come to Brisbane with this old property being taken over and “Hyatt-fied”. The hard product is pretty good- excellent location in the midst of the city and decent sized rooms with modern finishings. Unfortunately, none of the King rooms have actual King beds so you have the choice between much smaller sized Queen rooms or you have to live with two singles shoved together (which they, of course, incorrectly call “King” on their website). We were really impressed how this was communicated to us in advance but this doesn’t change the fact that this hotel simply has no acceptable King mattresses available which is a total no go for a hotel that calls itself Hyatt Regency.
In a similar vein, the pool looks lovely at 8am in the morning but turns out to be pretty useless at all other times of the day as it’s “smartly” built in a way so that it gets the hotel’s own shadow for most of the day. We dared regardless and not only is it shady throughout the day but also not heated in the slightest, hence freezing cold- and I’m usually not easily shocked by cold water pools.
What we were really unhappy about was the housekeeping service which seemed to be leftover from the C-class brand this properly was in the past: Inattentive, slack and not hygienic we found their service on every single day of our stay: Not a single time did they vacuum the floors (!!!) and every day we had to call up and ask for things like fresh coffee capsules, bathroom amenities or clean glasses. The latter turned out to be a major endeavour for the staff and required several renewed calls to the front desk to get it finally fixed. In fairness, after posting a review on Tripadvisor I was contacted be the hotel and they addressed all my issues in a personal email and took part of the room charges off my bill. They seemed to be genuinely interested in improving those little niggles so I am excited to go again in two weeks time.
