hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

My timeline for reference and question at the end :)
26-Nov applied online, website crashed at the final submit stage, tried again different browser, same result (wrote down the reference number though)
27-Nov called HSBC call centre, no record of reference number, agent took my application over the phone, super helpful
27-Nov email saying conditionally approved, uploaded proof of employment that day
1-Dec I called and enquired, was told card had been posted, told can take 10 business days for card to arrive
7-Dec email from Star Alliance welcoming me to Star Alliance Rewards, chose SQ as status airline and completed questions about "do you currently hold Gold Status through flying?"
15-Dec I called again and chased, card had been sent to wrong address (I think agent who took my application made a typo), card was reissued and sent to correct address
19-Dec card arrived and activated
3-Jan made Singapore Airlines flight booking (over $3K to meet requirement)
6-Jan email from Star Alliance saying I am eligible for gold status and to make my choice by 19-Jan
20-Jan email from Star Alliance saying I have been approved for gold status with SQ
20-Jan email from SQ confirming gold status, updated in SQ app - happy days!

Pretty pleased with the experience overall.

Question for the group - my SQ anniversary is 30 November, so the SQ app says I am gold until 30 Nov. I will be spending the $48K requirement to maintain gold, so the anniversary date is a bit out of kilter - will I have a month where I am not gold?
Also - I signed up for the card under the bonus 25K SQ Krisflyer miles promo - does anyone know when this is usually awarded? Maybe after the statement issues?

Apologies for the long post!
