Hi frequent flyer gurus,

We have around 23,000 United Mileage points each and we want to use them on a return flight from Melbourne.

Working out where we can go with Star Alliance carriers is proving a bit tricky. Apart from the obvious destination New Zealand, is there anywhere else we can get to? Anywhere within Australia?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Oceania appears to be your only other option with routing via NZ to places such as Fiji or the cook islands

Only short haul *A from MEL is NZ. Lots of destinations in Australia, NZ and south pacific - but you'd need to connect in NZ for all these.

I am not familiar enough with Mileage Plus but suspect 23,000 miles isnt enough for any flight awards.

Thanks Kiwi Flyer, you are confirming what I thought would be the case. 20,000 points are enough for a Star Alliance return trip from Australia to NZ. I wanted to be sure that there's no way of flying from one city in Oz to another directly. It's silly to do this via NZ!

Thanks again...

Thai (TG) and United (UA) both fly SYD-MEL sector, but dont think you can book this without being part of an international itinerary.
