How to get to KEF in October

Any views on a cheap J for non status passengers on honeymoon who want to visit Iceland?. Depart Sydney. Not much time for a stopover. 2 weeks in october (after school holidays)

Depending on dates - I don't know school hol dates (there's a variation from about $6.2K to $8.8K) you can do it for $6,264 on AY.

All AY flight numbers, SYD-SIN-HEL-KEF on QF, AY, AY metal. Return KEF-HEL-BKK-SYD on FI, AY, QF metal.

I imagine different date combos might throw up different routings and airlines (e.g. BA).

Anyway, seems a pretty reasonable price if can get for 6.2.

The two trips I did to Iceland I flew Iceland Air in Y from NW Europe (AMS, CPH, LHR, ARN,OSL are all good options. They use a 757/767 which have heaps of legroom in Y class compared to newer configurations. Would you consider Vietnam Air which is around $4370 in J SYD-LHR return?

There are really two ways you could do it. One option would be to fly via Europe. The other method would be via the United States. E.g. fly to New York or Boston, then book JFK/BOS-KEF on Icelandair or Delta.

If they don't mind a bit of an indirect routing, they could get a return J fare from NAN to LAX flying FJ for around $2,500. Then just add SYD-NAN and LAX-KEF flights and you can probably get it all in J for around $4-5000 (or less if flying Y between SYD and NAN).

Yes and flying via Continental USA will usually attract better luggage allowance.

Iceland Air has direct KEF flights departing from LHR

On FI (Icelandair) themselves, you can often book Y+ (Economy Comfort) and actually get J (Saga Class) seats with Y+ service at much more reasonable pricing. You need to check the seat maps for the individual flights, because they shift the divide between J and Y+ depending on load. Otherwise it's Eurobusiness style middle seat blocked off.

Y+ on FI gives you unlimited food and beverages from the on-board menu and lounge access in KEF! So given the length of the flights, I think it's an unbeatable option if you can snag a J seat. We flew Y+ in a J seat to KEF last year, and then actual J back. Both trips were great, and would very happily fly on their cute little 767s again!

If you choose this route... well now you just need to get to one of the many ports that FI flies to KEF from!
