How to get free food & booze flying JQ on a classic rewards ticket

I don’t know if this well known amongst QFF – I certainly didn’t know – but it is something I stumbled across the other day and I thought I would share it with you…

When redeeming QF points for a JQ classic reward seat, it is always frustrating to me that advance seat selection is not possible through the QF portal. The QF portal does provide the JQ Reloc, but when you go to Jetstar.com to manage your booking, selecting a seat will cost you money - at least $5 I think.

Anyway, being the control freak I am, I decided I would pay the money to choose a seat, as I don’t like the idea of being stuck between 2 people at the back of the plane! When I was going through the check-out procedure to pay for my seat selection, I noticed that in the “purchase food” section, the $15 in-flight food voucher was priced at $0. Thinking this must surely be a mistake, I clicked on it anyway… and it added the voucher to my shopping cart… but still for $0. I proceeded to check-out, and pay, and sure enough, the voucher remained at $0. Still not convinced, I expected that when on-board the flight nothing would happen (i.e. they would offer me nothing). But, when the FAs came to my row, they smiled and said “you have a $15 voucher to spend on whatever you like”…. So it worked!

I have done this a few times since then – and it always works. And just last week, my brother and his family of 3 all flew on a JQ classic reward booking – I told them to go into their booking and try it – and it worked! And on-board they were greeted and told they had “$60 voucher between them all” (4 x $15).

If this is old news – sorry to bring it up again – but I thought I would share it in case some peeps don’t know about it. I still can’t find a way to get free seat selection, but this makes up for it

I wouldn't be surprised to see if this loophole gets shut down very quickly. It's available for all bookings regardless of the classic award, as I just had a look at my Jetstar Bookings and surprise to see the $15 F&B option is listed as Free... needless to say I've added it to my bookings :)

Might be a good idea to have this thread deleted before the powers to be see it and remove the loophole :)

Maybe a QFF status thing? Interested to know but YES close down the thread if the risk is losing this!

This has been the case for classic reward bookings for at least the past seven years. JQ call centre confirmed the same FWIW

Oh that is so frustrating! I wish I had known that before. Had several Jetstar flights where I've booked through Qantas classic rewards recently and I paid money for the food on board!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for this - we will now be fed on our upcoming JQ flight.....

Thanks for this, just added food voucher for 3 of us on both of our JQ legs, which we booked as part of the QFF economy point sale.

Hmmm. Is this now closed?
I have a JQ reward flight. no seat selection for free nor free f&b $15. Am i doing something wrong?

Did you get the JQ reloc from the Qantas booking? It is a different reloc.
Then, you have to pay for a seat (no free seat), BUT, when you go through that process it offers you other cough like f&b - it's at that point that the $0 option appears... at least that's how it used to be!

Ah interesting, thanks will try. I used the reloc on the QF e ticket and that worked om the jetstar site... will try the seat purchase etc

FWIW I couldnt get this to work on mobile and desktop. Bought a seat but anytime i tried to add the $15 voucher it wanted to charge me $14 -i.e. $14 showing in cart.

Guessing the loophole is closed.

I just booked a points ticket on JQ and noticed the same - I do not have the option to add a $0 food voucher anymore.

It does however say I have a "bundle" added - but won't give me any detail about what that bundle is!

I am assuming its the bundle that allows for the 20kg luggage - which should also include the food, if it is the same as a starter bundle..... I guess I will have to wait and see! JQ bundles.JPG

Yep mine also had this mysterious bundle. Flight is next week so can report back.

When I've had that bundle added it was 20kg luggage only...

Not 100% sure. My QF issued JQ domestic award flight was in March.

On the JQ BP it stated: BG20,OBEX,WCID

I wasn't offered any food or beverage on board.
