I don’t know if this well known amongst QFF – I certainly didn’t know – but it is something I stumbled across the other day and I thought I would share it with you…
When redeeming QF points for a JQ classic reward seat, it is always frustrating to me that advance seat selection is not possible through the QF portal. The QF portal does provide the JQ Reloc, but when you go to Jetstar.com to manage your booking, selecting a seat will cost you money - at least $5 I think.
Anyway, being the control freak I am, I decided I would pay the money to choose a seat, as I don’t like the idea of being stuck between 2 people at the back of the plane! When I was going through the check-out procedure to pay for my seat selection, I noticed that in the “purchase food” section, the $15 in-flight food voucher was priced at $0. Thinking this must surely be a mistake, I clicked on it anyway… and it added the voucher to my shopping cart… but still for $0. I proceeded to check-out, and pay, and sure enough, the voucher remained at $0. Still not convinced, I expected that when on-board the flight nothing would happen (i.e. they would offer me nothing). But, when the FAs came to my row, they smiled and said “you have a $15 voucher to spend on whatever you like”…. So it worked!
I have done this a few times since then – and it always works. And just last week, my brother and his family of 3 all flew on a JQ classic reward booking – I told them to go into their booking and try it – and it worked! And on-board they were greeted and told they had “$60 voucher between them all” (4 x $15).
If this is old news – sorry to bring it up again – but I thought I would share it in case some peeps don’t know about it. I still can’t find a way to get free seat selection, but this makes up for it
