Mrs tizey & I have a MEL-NRT J reward booking using QFF for later in the year .

I'd like to explore adding a domestic leg (Y is fine), either as a connecting flight to same day we land on NRT (so not go into Tokyo), or even a day or two later as a stopover in Tokyo. Where to? Not sure.. I'd like to see what options are.

I can't really find how to find domestic flights using QFF... And I don't have faith in QFF call centres with JL with availability. How can I find domestic JL reward flights, and how can I add to reservation? If it's a day or two later I'd start a new booking, but if connecting flight I'd add it to reward to ensure were covered in event of delay, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Domestic JL awards are released at the same time cash fares go on sale - usually 2 months prior to departure. This means you won't be able to search online for award space on JAL domestic flights yet, unless they're being booked in conjunction with an international flight.

I'm not sure if it's easily possible to add a JL domestic award to an existing international booking until the domestic award space is opened up 2 months out. A call to QFF is your best bet if you don't get an answer here.

FYI most domestic flights to/from Tokyo use HND instead of NRT so you may have rather limited options unless you're prepared to hang around the airport for a while waiting for your connection.

Thanks! Thats exactly the info I was after, and searching QF for 2 months out, I can see JL domestic fares galore to most ports we're searching for.

Looking at options, you're also right about HND being the domestic airport of choice. It might be that we overnight it in Tokyo, hit up our favourite eateries and head out the next morning to HND to connect to a domestic leg <24hrs from arriving. Easier than traversing NRT-HND directly, less stress, and more whisky and Tokyo delicacies!

No worries - glad I could help. Keep in mind that the Rugby World Cup is on from September to November, so award space might be in high demand later in the year!

Interesting wanderlust. Do I need to be flying in & out of Japan with JL to utilise that pricing? I'm flying into Japan on JL, out on either SQ or EK (2nd destination not confirmed, but hold tickets for both).

Does this matter?
