Hello,

This may seem like an idiot question, and yes i have read the education guide for EF and played around for a few hours and i am lost !

From KIX (Osaka, Japan) to MEL (Melbourne Australia) Return.
Depart KIX 29 or 30/3/07 and depart Australia about 3/4/07

I can see flights like...

When i look at fares i can see 2 good fares...

KKAPD2
QF K Round-Trip
758.00 (USD)

QF K Round-Trip
800.00 (USD)

Question is, how do i tell what the routing is for these fares ???

Also any ideas where i could purchase such a fare... Have a Japanese address if its only possible in Japan but cant see any restrcition on where it can be purchased.

Thanks for the newbie help.

Hi,

Thanks Serfty, but from that the routing just had KIX-MEL, and the rules specify that additional flights upto 2 must be via JAL in Japan and QF in Australia.
I may just check with my corp travel agent tomorrow see what they say since they get access to just about any fare worldwide.
I had just imgained there may have been more infomation than that, shall i say i expected QF to be more restrictive on what flights could be taken.

I did find bestflights will sell tickets at that price but it is Osaka (not KIX) - Haneda - NRT - SYD - MEL or via BNE or CNS, trouble is you need to tranfer airports in tokyo and on the way back that means an overnight stay, can just fly via BKK with Thai.

When they say QF flights do they mean also codeshare (inc Jetstar) or only 'real' QF flights ?

Thanks, Evan

Unless there is a specific list of excluded flights in the [FLT APPL] section of the fare rules (e.g. something like "APPLIES TO ANY FLIGHT EXCEPT QF 5000-5999"), any QF-marketed flight can be used.

[KVS Availability Tool 2.7.3/Platinum - ZUJ: OSA-MEL/QF/KKAPD2/748 USD]
Code:
SUPER SPECIAL APEX SPECIAL FARE

[b][FLT APPL][/b]
WHEN TRAVEL IS WITHIN JAPAN, APPLIES TO ANY JL/NH FLIGHT AND WHEN TRAVEL
IS WITHIN AUSTRALIA, APPLIES TO ANY QF FLIGHT AND APPLIES TO ANY QF
FLIGHT BETWEEN JAPAN AND AUSTRALIA.

Hi, good to know that for future, ended up flying Cathay via HK this time, or rather my girlfriend did, she wanted to spend a couple of days there and cheap fares so why not :)

As of end of March, but subject to check when JAL becomes oneworld...

What it came to in the end is that with the QF/JAP/JQ moving around of flights there really is no 'easy' way to fly KIX-MEL any more. You always need to come via somewhere else and fly jetstar, to fly QF you need to go to CNS but you cant make the connection same day you need to overnight, if you fly to NRT (Tokyo) you need to overnight and change airports to get to KIX (Osaka)

Interestingly the cheap Cathay flights did not show in EF ?? we purchased from Japan anyway but in AU flight centre could not find/sell them but Harvey World could. Very strange.

Atleast Cathay is oneworld, so points and lounges.

Is it possible to search for times and fares on the one screen? It seems you have to search for flight times on one screen then enter the same info to get the fares but you cannot sort the list by flight times.

Also, if I spot a fare I want how can I find the source of the fare? Is it simply the airline website?

Do your flight availability; once presented among others there are one or two links at the top of the web page. e.g If you specified QF on a MEL to ADL query you will see:

"View Fares for MEL to ADL" and
"View Fares for MEL to ADL on QF"".

Click one of these and you will fares that relate to your selected fight availability criteria.

As far as sourcing the fare goes, the answer can vary. Most competent TA's can do it for you but the charges they make vary considerably.

Yep, would be useful wouldn't it ! but just not possible i dont think to build a system to do that based on the interfaces provided to the airline systems.

The source is exactly the issue sometimes, airline websites, travel agents & web sites.

Sometimes the fare rules or conditions may give a clue as to who can sell them but its a bit of an inexact science.

but when i pull up the fares i can no longer see the times of the flights which is problematical because i have to line up times as to when i can fly.

Hint ... "right Click" the link you want and select "open link in a new Window" and you will have both available.
