I need to cancel a domestic J flight. Conditions are that it is fully refundable. You used to be to do this online and get the option of either the refund or a flight credit. It seems QF are being extremely devious now and removed the option of the refund forcing you to a flight credit if you want to do it online.

Is there another way to get the cash refund online or are they now forcing you to call? Seems ridiculous to me.

Well a few interesting things I found after calling to cancel my flights.

It was confirmed that the ability to get a refund (as opposed to credit voucher) was removed during Covid. In the fact of it, this defies logic. They're essentially forcing you to call an already busy call centre. It becomes even more illogical because I'm told it will take 12-14 weeks. Previously you had your money back in a week or so. So this is clearly a money grabbing exercise to help with cash flow and potentially remain solvent.

The other interesting bit was I was told that if I took a voucher instead, I could choose either an extra 10% value, double points on the booking or double status credits.

Now I didn't ask and not clear exactly what type of...
Hmmm...that's not cool. Previously you could cancel online and the money would be refunded in a week or so. I wonder now if its going to blow out to 12 weeks too :(

Now I didn't ask and not clear exactly what type of refund would qualify for this offer. The tickets I cancelled were domestic J bookings which allow for a full refund. I suspect a fare that doesn't might not get that offer. One could easily work this to one's advantage with a little planning to either get more status credits or more value out of a booking.

It's not solely exclusive - I accepted it for a Red e-deal booking...
