Hello everyone

Its my first post on my first day on this much adored site !

I have a little dilema :

Soon SQ will introduce the A380 to SYD and LHR. I want to use points to redeem to fly F Class on the new A380 in March or April 2007
one way SYD LHR.

I need to have 154k miles for the full redemption, or I need 130k for an online redemption. Trouble is I currently have 109543. that leaves me about 21k short...

How do I make up the extra points...... I dont have any further plans to fly on SQ in the next 12 months.

Should I do a flight run to USA ... or buy the points from SQ ... can anyone suggest how to make more points ... online surveys... any suggestions will help

Thankyou all !

You can transfer American Express rewards points to SQ Krisflyer so perhaps thats an option (depending on your spending habbits, you have plenty of time to earn the required points).

I wouldn't be so sure about the A380 going right through to London by that time next year. It's been delayed further so last word it should be flying SIN-SYD-SIN possibly by the end of the year, but I'm not sure if SQ or Airbus have set a date for when it'll make it to LHR

What is your activity profile?

Kris miles can be earnt in many ways.

Staying at Hotels? Choose one that gives you Kris points.
Renting cars? 500 points per rental from hertz/avis.

There are some promotions as well that will increase your earnings.

But yeah, it would be pretty hard to earn the points you need without flying. Much easier with Qantas due to their Credit Card tieups.

I'm not sure Amex points can be transferred to KrisFlyer? Can't remember seeing it last time I checked, but could be wrong.

Also - with the number of Airbus delays occurring, and the inevitable backlog of people wanting Award seats on the new aircraft (along with limited released availability), I'm not sure you need to worry about finding the points quickly :)

You had me doubting myself for a minute there... but I checked and:

Singapore Airlines Point Transfer
If you are enrolled in Membership Rewards Ascent and are a member of the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles program, you can transfer your Membership Rewards Ascent points for flights with Singapore Airlines and Star Alliance Partner Airlines. A minimum of 5000 points may be transferred into the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles program by the Cardmember in his/her name only. The transfer of points will be administered solely by American Express and will be processed within 3 business days.

Perhaps they are a new partner, I'm not sure to be honest.

To buy the points would cost you US$40 per 1,000 so you would roughly need US$840 to complete your reward. That is not too high a price to pay for an F class ticket. Not sure if you could earn 21,000 points through flying for less than US$840.

If you have an Amex credit card and are enrolled in membership rewards Ascent program then you can transfer points from there to SQ Kris Flyer. I am not sure about any other Australian credit cards transferring directly to SQ Kris Flyer.

Hmm. Yeah, looks to be correct, if the member is on the "Ascent" rewards. Maybe I'm not on that :-|

Anyways:

"Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer 2 points 1 KrisFlyer Mile"

Not that great a redemption, but still possible to earn the amount needed through a reasonable spend over X months.

If you have Starwood points (stay at Westin, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton Hotels), these points can be transferred to SQ miles at a one to one ratio. If you transfer 20,000 Starwood points to Krisflyer miles, you get a bonus 5000 KrisFlyer miles i.e. 25,000:p

.Also Diners Club allows you to transfer Diners reward points to Starwood at a 2:1 ratio, and then you can transfer them to SQ Krisflyer miles. I have done this a couple of times (slow...takes several weeks but eventually gets there!) to top up my account for an award.

It's all relative really. 1 point = 1 Qantas FF point, sounds much better doesn't it?

If booked online ADL-LHR return in J costs 110,500 Krisflyer Miles for travel on SQ (221,000 Ascent Points) OR on QF it will cost 256,000 Qantas FF points/Ascent Points

Not so stark difference from MEL/SYD/BNE-LHR, but still on SQ will cost 123,250 Krisflyer Miles (246,500 Ascent points) vs the 256,000 on QF.

Welcome to AFF Industrybuff :)

Not sure where you are located. Some countries (eg Singapore) have a Kris Flyer branded Amex. IIRC there is a sign up bonus and wouldn't take too much spend to get 21k points.

Other options - hotel stays, car rental, phone and other partners. Flying *A - if you're based in Australia best bang for buck likely to be US or Canada on UA, AC or NZ (watch for non-mileage earning fares); or to asia on SQ (currently some good deals for the off season).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Amex has three basic reards programs:
* Program Information
o Ascent
o Choices
o Spirit
o Choices costs $40 PA and has no transfers with other programs. (althogh you can get Virgin Blue/Amex Travel Vouchers).

o Ascent costs $80 PA. It has transfers with Qantas Frequent Flyer at 1 for 1 and 2 for 1 with Malaysia Airlines Enrich, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles & Thai Airways International Royal Orchid Plus.

o Spirit costs $89 PA. It has transfers with Qantas Frequent Flyer at 1 for 1 and 2 for 1 with Malaysia Airlines Enrich only.

Note. In some cases/cards the annual rewards program fees may be waived.

After reading some of the replies to the above question & just joining up to Krisflyer Loyalty Program ready to take off to Europe later this year, can Qantas Frequent Flyer points be transferred and combined with the Krisflyer Loyalty Program?
