My cynicism appears to be justified by the mods (and others)- with the headline of that thread being updated.

Do you think so?
The post title was amended from (IIRC): Laptop stolen at BNE Int .
to: Laptop stolen [after being left behind] at BNE Int [security screening].

As is frequently done, it merely expanded on the circumstances of the post, not the content. And certainly didn't change the request for help.

And the OP from that post has not been back online since the original..........

The suspense is killing

I do sometimes think posts on threads like this should be twitter length :p

Other than a personal rant eg Virgin overcharge and Laptop issues, how do others take it when a newbie makes a pretty nasty (in my eyes) comments to a long term member? Gets my back up a little regardless of who the long term poster is.
That shouldn't be acceptable. Report the post would be my advice and let the moderators decide.

Did mods update the title after it was reported by members? Someone may have reported that post to alert mods, because they were 'confused' about the laptop being stolen or lost.

Sometimes the conflict can make a thread very ENTERTAINING and INTERESTING. Some people become very personally upset by comments on internet.

For instance, we know that both Juddles and the Rooflyer are senior and respected member of the forum, but who know that they have a FEUD before this thread? Like Hollywood gossip, it is very ENTERTAINING and INTERESTING like My Kitchen Rules

Do they? News to me.

News to me too! For the record, Rooflyer has been around a lot longer and contributed a hell of a lot more on this forum than me, and I respect his opinions very much! We just do not see eye to eye on some things, but that is normal.

A couple of responses that well illustrate my 'problem' with some reponders to first-posters who have a problem or bad experience - doubt and cynicism where its not warranted or necessary.....

The second, expresses two points of doubt of the OP. First that they have 'disappeared' - after 6 hours!. 'Disappeared' casts the OP in a negative light. Remember not everyone is obsessed about AFF as some of us are. ....

Rooflyer, It seems I did not communicate well in that post - I was actually trying to highlight exactly what you are saying - that the perception of "disappeared" after only a couple of hours is wrong - that it is normal for people to not be permanently online!

Absolutely. :) I can have a disagreement with (almost) anyone here and can still have a shandy with them afterwards. People with long memories might remember some very, er ... 'entertaining' and 'learned' discourses I've had with two members in particular (although neither exchanges involved the actual throwing of faeces), both of which I ended up being 'mates' with. People may be surprised who I've gone into bat for ...

Its only the internet. We'll all make up and have a big boozy lunch afterwards. :p

Who's in? :D

Damn. I was ready for some gossip.

I sorta missed this. Not sure if intended as humorous, without a :) or ;), or if a 'if' is missing, but its cough.

Damn. I was ready for some gossip.

Sorry, no gossip :D, just invitation to lunch.

I wrote (and deleted) a post back near the start, suggesting that two posters may have teamed up to play a game of good cop/bad cop just to see how many fish they might catch….

The level of respect for first-time rants ought to be directly proportional to the number of subsequent posts.

Fine, some folks just want to vent and that's cool. But if they want to get to the root cause of their issue, and how to prevent it occurring again, they'll engage. That's worthy of respect.

Easy I am having a bitter feud with both of them.o_O:rolleyes::oops::eek::D;)

Juddles walks up to drron, says "feuds are for women, I challenge you to a duel!" Juddles removes glove, and smacks drron in the face with it....
