It seems that I will have to change from Qantas to Spore Airlines + United on many (most) of my International flights. I've just joined KrisFlyer and am interested in knowing how quick I can expect to get a 'good' ff level granting me access to lounges etc. I am just on the brink of getting my Qantas Platinum now and should be good for the next 12 months. However will drop if I continue to fly on United and Sport Airlines. Due to policy we're obliged to fly economy these days .. so that would have a major impact on any acruals.

Thanks!

/Jorgen

You need 25,000 status miles for Silver and 50,000 status miles for Gold.

Note the cheapest economy fares on SQ earn NO MILES on any program. Watch out for these. If booking on the SQ website there is clear mention of this. On other websites check the booking class - if it is Q, V, G, N or T on any leg of a ticket then no miles on all SQ flights on that ticket.

SQ status (except PPS but this requires paid business or first on SQ) is earned in the 12 months between each anniversary of your join date.

Class of service bonus (25% for business, 50% for first) counts toward status miles. However elite bonus (25% if already have status when flying on SQ, MI or VS) does not count towards status miles.

would Jorgen be better off to try status match with some other *A airlines for lounge access and credit the miles to krisflyer

Mileage Plus would status match (but not to top tier). As alluded to, Kris Flyer will not status match.

Be aware that once you hit the 50,000 mile level with United (Premier Executive and Star Alliance Gold) your miles on United get a 100% bonus.

The only extra miles that I see in the SQ program are for business and first.

I have UA Gold secured for next year and am now logging miles with SQ to see waht happens.

Mileage Plus status bonus is only on UA.

Kris Flyer has a 25% status bonus, only on SQ and MI (Silkair).

im in a similar boat. would MP match knowing you weren't going to fly UA?? ie. you are out to get a match on UA but you know for a fact you will only fly SQ??

hope i was clear.

yes, but UA status doesn't get you much flying SQ (unless you're flying business or first and double dip for PPS status)

- limited availability on awards
- certain awards booked in lower class due to tit-for-tat rules
- no access to SKL in SIN unless flying business or first (or qualified PPS)
- zero chance of op-up
etc

I joined MP last year as I had some domestic US sectors that had to be taken on UA, so thought I might as well earn some points along the way. My main FFP is QF where I have WP status.

From the posts above, am I correct in assuming that if I contact UA they will raise my current status (NIL) - based on being WP? I visit the US a couple of times per year as our head office is in Pittsburgh. I usually try and stick to AA, but occasionally have to use other airlines. If UA will raise status then this would hopefully give me access to RCC if flying within the US.

Yes, you should get a status match to 1P (*G mid tier).

No, no lounge access within US unless on the same ticket there are international flights, or have paid RCC membership or have *G status with an FFP other than UA and US.

Oh...not as easy as I thought for complimentary RCC lounge access in the US...or though at least there is the 100% milage bonus
