Hypothetical question - how much would you pay for OWS if you could buy it?

I mean Qantas Club is like what $400-500 a year? But OWS is at the margin more valuable.. so maybe worth $600-700?

But then again assuming you travel 20 times, at that price, the cost of lounge access is ~$30-35.

Depends where you travel, if there are PP lounges then that might be a more cost effective option.

Presumably in this hypothetical example you would be looking at buying OWS being Qantas Gold.
The thing with Qantas Gold is that it allows much more access to OW lounges overseas.
It also offers better Priority such as Check In, Baggage, Seating, and preference if things go wrong.
Also on Qantas you get 75% more points than Bronze on longer flights.
Bearing all these things in mind I would say its worth $1000 at a minimum, and heading up to $1500.

Cost is relative. I'd spend $500-$1000 on flights I don't need so not that difficult to spend some extra money for status.

How much extra? I guess that would depend on how much you want that status. e.g. Skyteam status does not interest me so it would not make any sense to spend money to achieve it.

Just make sure it's a PP plan that gives you a companion spot as there are several different plans some of which charge USD27.00 per guest.

You could always get a status match from your QF WP to the equivalent level in another alliance and that wouid cost you zilch.

Well as a LTP on AA they have sent me 3 offers this year to buy myself platinum pro-a level between plat and EXP.The cost has been coming down ,the last-$US1545 for basically 18 months.
I haven't been tempted.

You could also work backwards and work out how much value you get from it and then what percentage of that you're prepared to pay? For example, my partner and I typically have two glasses of bubbles/wine each and assorted food which might be $90 value (say 4 gls booze at $12.50 = $50, plus 2 lots of food at say $20 pp). Lets say 10 return flights, so 20 * $90 is $1800 worth of booze and food we'd otherwise have to pay in the airport proper. Then you'd need to quantify the value of things like shower access, extra points, other perks of OWS etc. to you personally.

Well don't think anyone will pay $1800 for a OWS card :)

Reason I ask is I may become BA GGL which allows me to gift 1 x OWE and 2 x OWS cards.

Not that I can sell them - but to quantify the value of the benefit - I think the 2 x OWS cards are maybe worth ~$750 each... just a gut feel lol... so not too bad value!

surely there is a rule against you "gifting" them in such a way? Sounds to me that the real question is how much money can be gained against the risk of having one's GGL status wiped :)

no i am not intending to sell them :) not yet anyway - I have use for 1 x OWE and 1 x OWS

One more 1 x OWS - I am not sure - got to find someone in the family who travels enough to use it, but doesn't travel that much to get status on their own. lol...
