How much baggage allowance should I expect? (Jetstar/QF same PNR)

I have a flight from ZQN-AKL-BNE coming up. First leg is JQ economy, next is QF J. As usual Qantas who O booked with is vague but I do have 35kg approx checked baggage and would really rather avoid fees, but at least avoid "at the airport" fees.

My understanding is that as QF is the international sector it should take precedence and I should get the baggage allowance for that (60kg as WP) for my JQ flight. Any thoughts?

Thanks

As Qantas is the most significant carrier, you'll get the QF J allowance of 40kg on both flights including the Jetstar service. You can confirm this by getting the Jetstar booking reference and opening up the booking on the Jetstar website. The Qantas also applies the oversize fee wavier automatically on Jetstar so you may see 40kg allowance plus an oversize piece in the booking.

Correct however status benefits for baggage never apply to Jetstar operated services. Technically you have a ticketed 40kg allowance on both flights however on the QF operated flight an extra 20kg applies meaning from ZQN-AKL you can only check 40kg but on the AKL-BNE you can check 60kg.

As mentioned by encryptededdy JQ domestic flights don't connect so when you check in at ZQN your bag and boarding passes will only be as far as Auckland, upon arrival in Auckland you'll need to collect your luggage from the baggage claim and either walk or catch the shuttle bus to the International terminal before checking in with Qantas.

@miniyazz Dragging this up to see how you went with the JQ allowance?

We have a JQ domestic to QF1 rewards flight next month and all I see is we are on a jetstar starter fare which gives 7Kg carryon and nil checked.

QF and JQ call centres are no use at all and I don't want a bill or scene at the airport.

Unless they are on the one PNR, when you are talking Jetstar, all you will have on Jetstar is what is on that ticket - so nil checked without paying for it.

it is one PNR. Jetstar 'should' allow carry on and checked as per QF allowance but I am shuddering at the thought of the gate dragon and their scales telling me to pay up or else.
We're going First on QF1 so well over what JQ can even dream of for baggage.

The gate dragon won't be the problem for the checked baggage (if any), but could be for the carry on. As a single PNR, then the IATA baggage rules certainly apply, and that itinerary would be applying the QF rules.

What you are entitled to on JQ does not include any status benefits - so either 1 x 10kg carry on, or 2 small pieces at up to 7kg each (total 14 kg). Checked baggage would be (only) 50kg.

A print out of the PNR at a minimum would be wise to prepare for any battle with a dragon.

We have a JQ -> AY connection, single ticket, coming up in a few months. The baggage allowance on the JQ site has updated to reflect the AY allowance, but cabin baggage has stayed as per JQ’s policy..l 1 bag not exceeding 7kg.

The JQ website took about three days to update and reflect the AY allowance. Initially after ticketing it showed 0 bags.

All I can tell you is I didn't have to pay fees.. can't remember the details of what happened now!
