How many status vs non-status flyers per flight

Some JQ flights have been very top heavy status members

I couldn't believe how many lined up for priority boarding on a VA HBA-MEL flight on Monday night. Dark mof_ was on over the weekend, so I get there were a lot of arts-types down there who might fly more often than average, but it had to be, like, 10-20% of the 738 which was impressive for the route (or so I thought).

AA "simplifies" the answer to this thread question by having a public date upgrade list. Which AA elites can ask to be on. With some commuting type flights a large number (50+) have been cough after the one or two available seats on the narrow body flight.

Morale of the story on this thread? Fly off-peak.

Happy wandering

I do think that airlines should not forget the non status passengers as they do make up the bulk of many flights and give consistently good service to all their passengers Status or not.

A flyer who flies once every x years is invaluable. The airline has one chance only to impress as their next flight may be years away.. No amount of CL/WP1/WP will sustain an airline if the other passengers vote with their wallet and go elsewhere. The airline knows this I'm sure

Hard to agree since Qantas changed the loyalty bonus to be based on 12 months only. That tells me they don't give a stuff about someone flying once every X years, where x>1.

I most certainly realize that.
Where this question can about from, I was having a discussion with a colleague of mine about how his choice of seat selection was sucking. He is a non-status'd flyer and his upcoming trip is the first OS one he has went on in about 10 years. I was trying to explain to him that airlines reserve their best seats for their status'd pax. He however refused to believe that there where actually that many status pax on any one flight.

RE: choice of seating - don't overrate status. I had a B717, unable to seat select pre-departure and allocated on check-in the worst seat on the plane (possibly the entire fleet??) - 25F. Fun times! Have plat. I'm thinking if I see that plane on my schedule again I'm going to call up and have a DYKWIA moment and ask for a seat anywhere but!! Well, would like to avoid rows 24 and 25 altogether. 25 has the wall to stare at and 24 the engine mostly. I would have taken a middle seat over the seat I had. I just ended up closing my eyes and pretending I was somewhere else:p Really disconcerting and disorientating not being able to see where you are.

Just a couple of examples from AA.The first longhaul AA flight after getting LTP I was the highest status pax DFW-FRA.So no EXPs etc.
Then ~ a year ago on a MCO-DFW flight the gate agent was telling the FA on the gate to prepare for a troubled flight as 50+ EXPs had missed out on upgrades. We were in paid F and got quite a few glares as all those EXPs had to wait until F pax and military had boarded before they were allowed on.Turned out there was a legal conference in Orlando.

Indeed.
NTL > MEL on Monday morning is notably one example.
I'm aware of aware of managers and executives from various companies with offices in the Hunter will fly on the Monday morning JQ flight as their being no feasible alternative to get to MEL in time for meetings/conferences.
