How many people actually fly F in their lives?

Done a Perth to London return (via East coast), and a one way London to Perth (again via East coast) when moving back from London.

Have just over 120,000 AA miles, so I have an idea of how they will be spent :)

Not counting US domestic "first", LHR-HKG on QF30 once and SIN-MEL on QF10 a few times, all points upgrades and HKG-JFK on CX once due to a booking error on the part of CX (they booked the flight in A instead of D on the AA code and got mixed up by the DONEx domestic AA F upgrade rule. Had been expecting them to notice and revert before the flight, but they didn't).

I'd agree somewhat with CE's estimate and guess it could actually be even less than 0.5% of the population.

As of 2016 the we were at roughly 24 million so 0.5% of that makes 120,000. That's still a lot of folks flying long haul F at least once.

I could go with 0.5% of the travelling population.

Realistically I would take 0.1% or maybe even less

Been F domestic in SYD-BNE, so that's ancient history.
Saved up enough QFA points to go F to Europe with Emirates, but availability for someone without Status (me) is an issue. Hope to one day join the 0.5%ers

All I know is that if you have flown true F (long haul on a decent airline) then it changes your perception and expectations of flight. My advice to anyone who has a chance to do it just once, DON'T DO IT!!!

Even J there after is coughte.

I don't mean it is amazing - I just mean it highlights just how painful long haul is in any class.

I will agree to a point. It is nice, and it does make J seem very ordinary.

However personally it made me realise that while it is nice, and I would love to do it every time, the plane leaves and arrives at the same time. I am 6'5" and if I have to slum it in a bog standard economy seat, then I will without thinking how nice it is up front.

Never myself. I agree with others that we're likely talking fractions of a percent, even in a fairly wealthy country like Australia.

Ahh, yes. I did fly a few of First class transcons on Qantas between the east coast and PER in the 90's.

734's/733's with first two rows dedicated and next 5 convertible between economy and Business.

White linen 4 course service with dishes plated in and served from the Galley ...

Regularly fly it on A380 QF/EK from AKL to BNE. Alas the last flight is on 24 March 2018 when QF takes over with their A330s but no F there, but their J is ok. There are often on special as well. The cheapest I have brought F specials for is about $1500 return for 240 SCs and 10000 FF points. RRP is about $3200. J specials are about $900 return for 160 SCs.

Six of my family fly in F so I guess that boosts the numbers.

Ignoring "way back" times when there was a domestic First, my first class flights have all been through upgrades - 4 on the US-Australia routes, one LHR-HKG and one SIN-LHR.

Really the only reason I will bother to try and maintain WP when the last few SC's to LTG are achieved.

As for the rest of the population - frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!

They were great in the 767s

I remember walking past to get to almost row 100. One time I was seated next to the jump seat in the last row.

I apologise.I forgot I had an F flight SYD-POM-SYD back in 1969.
Through student flights with discount the F ticket was only $10 dearer than Y.I assumed correctly that I could drink more than S10's worth of beer on the flight. After all I share a birthday with Boonie.

Interesting Q. Have been watching EF seat map for a SYD-DFW flight we have coming up ..... the seat hopping that has occurred in the last few days is truly fascinating. For the past 10 months the cabin had double digit free seats .... that certainly isn't the case today.
