The US electronic visa for visitors from Australia took effect 2 years ago around Jan 2009. I applied and got my visa electronically (thru the internet). I was allowed to enter the US and to stay there for 3 months. The visa is valid for 2 years, meaning I can use the visa once anytime the time the visa was issued (Jan 2009) until Jan 2011. Having said that, I take it that one has to apply for a visa electronically for any single entry. I can't remember if I paid a fee for the 3 month visa. But if you require more than 3 months then you need to go to the local US Consulate Office personally to apply. I believe there is a fee here. Hope this helps.
