Hi - all the old threads on this seem to be closed, does anyone have any updated experiences? Thanks

I cancelled an award booking a month ago (partner classic award) , if I remember correctly the points were instantly returned, however the cash portion took about a week to be returned to my credit card.

It also depends if it was a third party flight - that delays things significantly.

My award booking was a mixture of 3K from Perth-SIN connecting to UL in SIN to CMB. No QF flights on the booking.

I changed an EY flight to EK, which ended up being a cancellation and re-book. It was all done instantly, well, same day while the premium desk agent worked on it and then she called me when she was ready to ticket it.

Points used to be refunded instantly but seems it's no longer the case. I've cancelled Int award yesterday, checked this morning and it has been deleted from MyBookings but points have not been refunded yet.

My last award cancellation (QF flight departing Australia) took just under two months and a few phone calls before I got my points and taxes back. Just because the phone agent says that the refund will be processed doesn't necessarily mean it will be. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Fares for classic or partner awards commencing outside AU where taxes are charged in a foreign currency need some kind on manual intervention as there will undoubtedly have been a fluctuation in the exchange rate so the amount you were charged initially on your cc will be different to the amount credited back.

After waiting one month after the initial cancellation and still no sign of a points or taxes refund to the cc I called the ff service centre but had to be transferred to someone else to do this.

Once done the points went back into the ff account immediately then the taxes were credited back to the cc a couple of days.

I've had to cancel/re-schedule a few recently, QF and other metal and have mostly had to phone to chase after 2 weeks (service level). Seems to be a mixed bag, sometimes taxes come back really quickly and points don't. On a couple of occasions the points have been released immediately after the phone call. As other threads have mentioned you've got to try to time your phone calls for low demand times but also during the FF hours.

Cancelled an award last week and points have been refunded already. The description on the activity statement has the same date as the date the award was cancelled. I suspect she pushed through the cancellation manually as I made a new booking.
