How long do QF refunds take?

We treated ourselves to a business class flight Per-Syd in early Sept and it looks like the border will not be open by then and I am looking at options just in case. We got our flights as part of a deal and I doubt we will get that again so if we transfer flight to another business one it will cost a fortune to pay difference. So I am thinking of getting an actual refund (I understand this is an option for business class rather than just the flexibility on other classes) but I am curious as to how long QF take to actually refund in these circumstance. Any ideas?

Qantas are quoting 8 weeks at the moment.

Also, worth noting, that some Business deals exclude refunds (except of course if Qantas cancel), so check that out too.

I see that on Manage My Booking there is an option to "cancel/voucher" - I am worried that if I activate this it will just automatically go to a credit note. Is this right? I really hope I won't have to sit on phone for hours to make sure I do get an actual refund?

You have to call them to refund back to original form of payment, if you do it via Manage my booking it'll just goto a credit.

I recently requested a refund from QF and it took about 6 weeks to arrive, but I just had Amex put the charge on hold until QF issued the refund so I was out of pocket in the meantime.

September it still two months away. Far too soon to call it on the borders or the situation in SYD. Things could, hopefully, be under control by August 1 (you'd hope!) so yeah I wouldn't call it off just yet.

But yes if YOU cancel you only get a voucher option. If QF cancel you can call and request the refund. That is very clear. So sit tight on it no matter what and see what happens. I expect you'll enjoy your flights. Hopefully!

But business class rules indicate you can get either a refund or credit note if you cancel, nothing to do with covid rules...
