Purchased a policy from RAC in WA for 67 day trip. Top cover, duo, no excess, aged in 60's. As a long standing member asked for a discount and got it. Paid $959 . Told them at the time I may need to extend it. A few days ago I asked them to extend it for 3 days, making it a 70 day trip. I was expecting a small amount extra to pay. Was told it would be $219.00.
I asked how they arrived at that figure and they said that it was priced in 7 day increments. So looking at the calendar, I saw that I had actually paid for 70 days already as my trip was now exactly 10 weeks = 70 days. No way they said - my trip was for 2 months, 1 week and 1 day and that one day took me into a new 7 day bracket.
I tested by getting an online quote for a 67 day trip and a 70 day trip and the result returned EXACTLY the same quote which bears out the statement that it is priced in 7 day increments. They refuse to budge. Took it to Consumer Affairs and they say they can do nothing.
So a 70 day trip can be priced in different ways and they choose the higher figure! I had assumed that it would be based on the number of days one was away, not the number of months and weeks and days as months can have a different number of days.
I feel very hard done by and feel ripped off.
