How early to check in LHR for QF and lounge options.

You can't be serious, with that comment?
Who are these "many F pax", who would do something so silly?

In my experience, the MEL F Cieck-in is often available more than three hours ahead of flight time, presumably because other flights are departing around the same time or a bit earlier.

But, even if that were not so, there are adjacent doors through which to enter the terminal, and, as downgraded points out, there is access from within the terminal directly into the F Check-in suite.

I didn't think to stop, ask their names and write them down. I saw the queue on the footpath when passing one evening.

regardless, QF F checkin should be open when QF F pax arrive ( QF should know the ETAs given CD)

PS they looked like really nice, normal people

Ok, thank you.
A random observation, then, of some people standing outside the F Check-in, who may or may not have been F pax, left waiting to check-in.
Will leave it at that. :)

Definitely 4 hours before departure at LHR. Mrs 340 did this three weeks ago.

I did actually find out that they were F pax waiting for check in to open. an observation when passing but not random

I would have spent less time observing and more time pointing to the door to the left and suggesting they wait in the dry for the other door to open.

Hold on a minute. Are you suggesting they take the same door as us common people? That's just pure madness. First class pax do not simply use the same door as people in Y (well except on the A380 & 744's). They paid a lot of money so they dont have to be seen with the rest of us, a little rain isn't going to defeat them now.

and quite happy waiting at the entrance for the doors to open.

It is quite interesting how we are 'trained ' to do certain things such as queueing
