Surprising. It wasn't like anything I was imagining when I booked - better. Built around an old big house, extended and modernised throughout.

I was upgraded for my 2 nights - although its odd that a second category 'suite' was only one room (and an enormous bathroom); it was in the reno old part of the hotel, so v high ceilings etc - but fully modern.

Set in park-like grounds and gardens, although a main road is just beyond the trees and can be heard when outside. Free undercover parking. Central aircon - at reception they set it cold for me. Two restaurants - a 'gourmand' (not tried) and a bistro - v. good. menu the same both nights. A bar, incl outside terrace. There is a spa - hamman, pool and massages etc.

English language of staff varied - mostly OK but I was stuck once asking questions at reception. All friendly and efficient.

I really enjoyed my stay here & would like to go back. About 10 mins drive out of Vannes downtown.

Property: Sofitel Quiberon Thalassa sea & spa, Quiberon, France
Status: Explorer+ Plat
Room booked: Superior room, sea view, terrace
Room upgraded/type: No
Rate: Lots
Early check in/late out: Yes, I arrived an hour early (3pm) and room 'just ready'. Probably BS - there's hardly anyone else here, in my wing!
Free internet: Yes - 80 Mbps
Welcome drink: Yes
Welcome amenity: A generic 'Cher Member' welcome card and a Sofitel luggage tag
Recommend: No

This stay was meant to be a highlight of my road trip - a (rare) Sofitel, on the Breton coast, nice room. I had visions of drinks round the pool, maybe a swim in the ocean. Quiberon is a sea-side holiday town in Brittany.

Didn't happen. This place is odd. Its in three parts - an older section 'Corail', an 'Institute' - heath resort in the middle, and a newer wing 'Ocean', where I was, on the other end. This part is only open in summer.

I went to the wrong reception at first, having battled with the boom gate that refused to issue a ticket. Fortunately they took my bags across while I drove around. I was given a key card that didn't work initially (LONG way back to reception!) and a car park card that also didn't work. Not told about any of the hotel amenities until I asked.

The design makes it really impractical - the restaurants and bar is at the old end; that's a 250m walk from my reception, up stairs, down stairs, zigzagging through and around the other parts of the hotel to get there. Maybe 350m from my room.

Indoor salt water pool at the 'institute'. Indoor?? There is also another small outside pool, that I wasn't told about and never saw.

IMG_8940.JPEG

Blue Bar - tapas and drinks. Staff here were good (I took my welcome wine here)

IMG_8937.JPEG

One of the many stairs (incl one full set of stairs) between my end of the hotel and the bar/restaurants.

IMG_8959.JPEG

Outside. My terrace room . The room was described as 'high floor'. The hotel has ground, 1st and 2nd; I was on the 1st floor 🤣

IMG_8952.JPEG

The old section on the left, with bar and restaurants; the Institute health resort in the middle, and the new wing on the tight; my room far right. SO you can see the distances involved.

A big disappointment and so glad I didn't book a second night, that I was contemplating.

Oh, I forgot in the above review of Sofitel Quiberon. They took a €500 security deposit. I gave them my best astonished look (It was genuine) and asked them how many bottles of wine did they think I’ll get through in a day? They replied something to do with the spa.

Ridiculous.
Jeez. Did they think you were going to steal the bed and fittings or maybe a spar bath?

Should have asked them to pay interest on the loan!

Spent last weekend in Sydney and stayed here instead of my usual Crowne Plaza Burwood. Turned out more convenient when visiting friends in the area, and still quite accessible to the M4 to either Parramatta or Sydney/Airport as required.

Wasn't a fan of the online pre-check-in and phone call to discuss "preferences" - which was just an upsell attempt on their behalf despite the room upgrade and late check out being published membership benefits... in the end these were included and I had a top-floor corner rooms with glorious views across much of greater Sydney (thanks to the amazing weather both Saturday and Sunday). I believe the regular rooms have SHUBs, so I was happy to have the room upgrade for sure!

Room booked: privilege room king (pretty sure base room)
Room upgraded/type: No.
Rate: $200 (bed and breakfast rate)
Early check in/late out: NA
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes, in app. Offered at the bar.
Welcome amenity: None.
Recommend: Yes and no.

At check in the staff did not recognize status and was not very aware about the different tiers. I had to ask about welcome drinks and how to redeem from the app (he had to ask manager) - maybe he is new ?

Rooms were ok and a good size but a bit dated.

Location slightly out of town but walkable.

Had dinner at restaurant and food was ok. Staff was very good though. Also had breakfast and it was basic. I redeemed my welcome drink for a barista coffee.

What I liked - they offered still or sparkling water for free at the bar and I could fill up my water bottle.

I could use the 30% explorer discount on dining but no points were credited after stay and I had to do manual claim (still have not heard back).

Overall the property was ok for one night stay. I've stayed at other non accor properties which was a bit more central to town and more modern rooms.

Rooms are modern, spacious and I really enjoyed my stay.

Positives:
- Modern rooms
- I enjoyed the view of the corner room and windows
- Both dinner and breakfast was quite good. I used my welcome drink for barista coffee. 30% off explorer rate applied.
- They offer premium sparkling or still water - available in 1L glass bottles at the bar which was a nice touch to save landfill.

Negatives:
- still waiting for food points to hit account (doing manual claiming), despite charge back to room.
