Thanked for my loyalty on check-in, then asked if I'd stayed there before... have done so 30-40 times...

Upgraded to the largest of the Deluxe configs, and nicest aspect with a view of the Bourke/Spencer intersection.

Welcome amenity a bag of chocolates with no wine in sight.

The towels and pillows are still well worn - presumably from the original 2021 opening - and need replacement. I gave them post-stay feedback a while back with no response.

Breakfast has scaled back again with less food out. The only Asian option was congee - previously they've had a veg curry and a few types of dumplings. They have also done away with the single serves of yoghurt/bircher in the fridge (near the Nespresso machine) and now have a few communal bowls for self service at the fruit station, which is now combined with the cold cuts and cheeses. I was still offered a free barista coffee though, am happy they haven't enhanced that...

Sub $200-250 I still think this is a good stay. Wouldn't stay for higher prices though.

How does it compare to the Pullman in the CBD?

How does it compare to the Pullman in the CBD?
Pullman has an executive lounge which is a nice perk if you have access included (either via room category or status). Evening canapes and breakfast cooked to order. Only negative is that they spam you before and throughout the stay with emails pushing to self-serve anything that might involve contact with a staff member. I would say it's slightly better than the Movenpick, but not substantially so.

How does it compare to the Pullman in the CBD?

I'll preface this by saying I haven't stayed at the Pullman in a few years, so things may have changed - but if memory serves correctly:

Movenpick benefits
  • Pool and sauna (Pullman doesn't have these I believe?)
  • Miss Mi offers better on-site F&B
  • Cheaper, usually
Pullman benefits
  • Base category rooms substantially bigger
  • Has proper 1BR suites (Movenpick 'suites' are a very large room)
  • Exec lounge
  • Location, arguably
  • Less street noise in rooms

Booked another 3 night stay at Raffles Jakarta for May and received the usual welcome letter and info.
Interestingly seems to be a slight “enhancement”

* From January 2026, all items in the Private Bar, including non-alcoholic beverages, will be chargeable for all guests

Soft drinks and juices were always free and replenished daily.

No big problem though as they look after us amazingly.
We booked the lowest room possible at around $240 per night and have already been advised we would get a Gallery suite worth around $700p/n. I dare say at check in we will get a further upgrade to the Garden Suite worth around $3800p/n.
They have also advised that they will arrange complimentary two way airport transfer which is around $60 each way.

Assume this is because you stay often and/or Diamond @jase05 ?
( am looking to do a few nights in June as Platinum)

I don't understand the mentality of a luxury brand doing this. Instead of cutting this cost, just charge another $10 or $20 to the room rate. Given the market segment, that price difference isn't going to impact people's decision to stay there or not. This kind of enhancement just kills goodwill of repeat customers.

Property: Sofitel Wellington
Status: Explorer+ Platinum
Room booked: Classic King
Room upgraded/type: None.
Rate: ~300NZD p/n for explorer flexible rate
Early check in/late out: late-out at 1pm
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: Yes. Platinums get enhanced a-la-carte menu at restaurant
Welcome drink: Yes in app, redeemable at bar or restaurant. Any wine by the glass, beer or soft drinks.
Welcome amenity: Small bottle of pinot from minibar.

Well appointed room, great design for business travellers with a proper desk for working. Pillows were a bit flat for my liking but YMMV.
Lounge is quite different to the other Sofitel ones I've been to. It's much smaller, just a semi open room behind reception. There's a bar for any drinks between 5-7, but food is quite limited. There's usually 3 nibble options, none too filling or appealing though. Cheeses, little cakes, pizza scrolls, etc.
Breakfast special menu for elites was a nice little perk and I enjoyed their selections. In fact, I think the breakfast was probably the most surprisingly delightful thing about this place.. Just the pastry selection was already gorgeous!!
Location is near parliament and all the offices. Would probably stay more towards the core - e.g. where the ibis is - if you are a tourist.
Lobby constantly had fresh infused waters and prosecco!!

Property: Mondrian Doha
Status: Explorer+ Platinum - added to a QR ‘Discover Qatar’ booking and it stuck.
Room booked: ‘Standard, stopover’.
Room upgraded/type: No
Rate: $175/ night ‘Qatar stopover’ - very heavily discounted.
Early check in/late out: the Doha stopover allows you to check in any time and then they are 24 hour days from then.
Free internet: Yes ( package)
Free breakfast: Yes out of the stopover package
Welcome drink: Yes in app - surprisingly
Welcome amenity: No
Recommend: No; not a million years

This was my third choice out of the list of hotels available on the Doha stopover package flying QR. The other two (Hyatts) had dropped out of the program. I knew it would be a bit different but boy …

As soon as I arrived, I had a weird sense of déjà vu. And then it hit me. This is where Edina and Patsy from Ad Fab stay, as arranged by Bubbles.

110% form/fashion over function/usefulness.

The place is garbage. I won’t go into every detail but from the check-in, to the room, to the restaurant, to the service, absolutely cough.

Oh, OK, two. There is a huge bath see picture below but zero barrier between the bath and the carpet of the bedroom. The lowest fan setting of the air-conditioning still sends out an Arctic gale. One of the outlets is directly over the desk so if you want to do something at the desk while having the air-conditioning on, well you can’t because you freeze to death.

And special mention of the pool. I had two days here at the end of another trip and I was looking forward to actually having some time in the pool and in the sun. Nup. The pool is on the roof but it’s totally enclosed by mostly opaque cover thing. So zero sun and being enclosed it reeks of chlorine as soon as you walk off the elevator.

IMG_3116.jpeg

The sole redeeming feature is that I was able to add my Accor number into it and I should be credited with the stay.

Lobby. Bubbles’ own design. All the big white plastic things are just hollow plastic.
