How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Tbh, I feel like in most Accor hotels the priority counter is a joke.

I’ve really only consistently had “priority” in properties with an EL where they check you in there.

That's how I've felt any every hotel for every brand. The only time it has ever worked was the Cosmopolitan in Vegas when it was part of Marriott. You had the typical Vegas mile long check-in lines. Still a decent line for the priority one, but was still a win.

Superior
Rate: $110 p/n
Room Upgrade: Deluxe
Free internet: Yes
Early check in / late out: Didn't need early check in. Early check out auto granted to 3pm which was perfect.
Welcome drink: Yes x 2 in app
Welcome Gift: Plate of fruit
Recommend: If you want to be based in Sanur.

Wanted to try this hotel because it was meant to have an executive lounge but I must have missed the memo because I don't think it exists anymore. I certainly couldn't find any mention of it.

Otherwise nice enough hotel, probably only good if you want to be based in Sanur, has a nice beachfront area with tables.

Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast buffet selection was good but I didn't have much time to check it all out.

: Definitely. Better if you need are leaving soon.

Won't say too much since this one has popped up a few times on here lately but such a nice hotel considering everything.

I was greeted by the manager as I was checking in which was lovely. Upgraded to the suite as well which was a wonderful room.

Breakfast, rooftop and executive lounge are all quite lovely. The lounge runs from midday to 9:30am, hot food starts 5:30-6pm. It's not quite dinner food but certainly quite snacky if that's required.

Despite the slightly more annoying access as mentioned before, I was just using a bunch of airport discounts on grab to counter the extra fee so I really didn't mind. Definitely would stay again and possible a while trip if it was less than a week, unless you prefer to be in the hotspots!1000020802.jpg1000020803.jpg1000020804.jpg1000020808.jpg1000020812.jpg1000020814.jpg

I was in Gold briefly as a Qantas benefit, but didn't think much of it. At the Novotel on Collins St, Melbourne, the prority check-in line was ignored in favour or non-status people arriving after we did. We requested late check-out and were given a one-hour extension, from 11am to 12am - but the room access card expired at 11am and we had to go to the desk to get it renewed for the remaining 50 mins.. Nothing special about the room. At least the price was right (immediately post-Covid, so an excellent rate).
At the Mantra at Sydney Airport, the room upgrade amounted to the top floor, not airport-facing, and no welcome amenities. From memory, they didn't have priority check-in.
At the Mercure Albert Park (a new property at the time) the welcome was nice (though no separate checkin) but there was no obvious room upgrade; on the contrary, we booked a room with balcony, which is what we got, but there was a huge structural pillar in the middle of the (small) balcony so there was room to squeeze in only one small chair - I'd call it a room downgrade, let alone an upgrade.
Novotel Sydney International is always nice to me and always gives me the room type (high floor, airport-facing) I request, once putting me on the premium top floor (as a Silver), which was appreciated. However, as their room rates have gone up suddenly (in the last year) by 30%–60%, I won't be staying there again.
All in all, Gold was very unimpressive. Since then I've dropped to Silver and that's good enough for me - I'm happy just with the welcome drink.

All Gold courtesy of Amex plat charge.

Peppers Gallery Canberra, arrived 20 mins before advertised check in time and told no... still cleaning... come back later!
Received an upgrade (actually the entire hotel needs one), a printed card from management and strangely a whole packet of double dipped Tim Tams!
Two drink vouchers in the app, the bar serves draft Moretti beer which was great.
Parking is an hysterical trip to an adjacent building with another access card!
It's an old hotel aching for some love and it is just a little bit weird!

This property has been covered many times in this post so what I wanted to talk about is best price guarantee.
Had a stay with Mrs in Sydney so after hearing a lot of positives about this property, I was keen to have a look at it myself. As it was a Friday night stay, the cost of booking was expensive but I had accumulates ALL points through All Signature program and used it to book the stay (little more than $800 which took 22,000 points and $11). When i was researching the booking, I noticed that Hotels.com had a cheaper rate of $710 but it stated that this was 'Member price'.

After reading the terms and conditions of Best price guarantee, it said something about member price not being applicable but since Member price of Hotels.com is open to anyone, I requested the best price guarantee based on this price but was not very hopeful.

To my surprise, they came through with the Best price guarantee and offered me $533 for the night which seems to be 25% off the cheaper price ($710 x 0.75) and not 25% off the difference which would only have been about $110 lower than $800. Also, they allowed me to pay for this in points so ended up costing 14,000 points and $31 in cash.

Overall, very happy with the result and the stay was also quite good (although the heated pool could definitely use some more heat). Keen to hear about other people's experiences with best price guarantee

Good location, nice aesthetic, similar vibe to the Calile in Brisbane. Lacking in plumbing construction quality, pipes are not lagged so hear the flushing of toilets and showers from rooms above.

I have a one night stay here booked for December. Do you think it’s worth it or just get another hotel. I have not seen many positive reviews of this place 🙂

It was very convenient for my visit to Canberra and half the price of other accommodation in the area. The QT and Ovolo Nishi are close and probably worth a look!

Did you submit this after you had booked the higher price?
Yes. I booked first then requested the best price guarantee. It was non refundable booking as I was going to complete the stay regardless but I understand that if a person is only going to book if the BPG comes through, then u will never be sure if u book the non-refundable booking.

Property: Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour
Status: ALL+ Platinum
Room booked: Prestige Suite
Room upgraded/type: No - but highest floor / best location received
Rate: Member Flexible w/SNU applied (a rather steep $1,480 before SNU)
Welcome drink: Yes - 2 x 'Elite' drinks (Pommery NV) were taken in Atelier
Early check in/late out: Arrived 4PM and room ready; requested and given 12PM checkout
VIP treatment: Nothing special noted, aside from a few "thanks for being loyal" type comments
Access to executive lounge (if existing): Yes
Additional care: extra chocolates & a small cake in the room (wifes b'day), together with everyone's favourite cooking wine

Stayed a night at the weekend at SSDH for my wife's b'day, and it was a good experience overall; better than the last stay, and aided by the fact that the lounge was not as busy as usual on Friday night + Saturday morning, vs our usual Saturday night stay for such occasions. On arrival, the doorman very quickly came over to confirm we were checking in and got our name, and without asking he took us straight over to the lift and away from the typical melee in the lobby for check-in service at Club Millésime on L35. After a brief wait, we were looked after well by the lounge staff, who checked us in and helped with redeeming of a bunch of ALL rewards points towards the stay. French 'sparkling' was offered, but I declined as I could see it wasn't the real deal. My wife partook, but it caused an allergic reaction after a few sips, so we left that behind and headed to the room.

I'd booked a Prestige Suite, using one of my expiring SNUs to upgrade from another room and knocking off about $600 from the rate. There's only one upgrade possible from this suite, but the Bellerive Suite was unavailable, which is no issue - they are much the same in terms of location, size and layout anyway. Our suite was on L33 and under the Bellerive on the prime north east corner of the hotel, with 180 degree views from two sides of the building. It's a nice view, but soon to be impacted quite largely by the Mirvac Harbourside construction which has core work to about L17 of 48 at the moment. Below I have some pics of that, plus my estimate of what it will look like when finished, courtesy of some shoddy cut-and-paste edits to the image :D

We went back to the lounge for the second hour of Apéro Chic” evening drinks & canapés, which was nice. Drinks are reasonable, but nothing good for craft beer snobs like me, or champagne drinkers like my wife. You could pay to get real champagne, but she opted for a coughtail instead, which she said was well prepared. The canapes were of a high quality, and unlike the last visit which was on a Saturday night vs this one on a Friday, there was plenty of them available, and they were replenished before running out. The club was about 1/2 to 2/3 full at this point, and it was easy to get a seat with a view.

Dinner at Atelier was up next, which I had pre-booked with a note about the special occasion. It turned out we probably didn't need to do anything in advance, as the place was very quiet. Only a handful of parties near the area where you come in, and then across the harbour side window were a few more groups, and a space held for us. Service was fast and friendly, though a few slip-ups with things forgotten or coming at the wrong time stood out given how quiet it was. Food quality was much improved over the last time we stayed, though the choux pastry dessert my wife had been looking forward too wasn't great, and she left most of that behind. Amusingly, the free b'day mini cake she had from them was her favourite dessert item :) Accor ALL+ discounts were applied to F&B (30% & 15% respectively) without issue. Our server did have some comments of frustration that they had finally gotten to the point where diners were adding the digital card to their phone wallets, and now ALL has taken the option away and replaced it with a card with a tiny number they can barely see, so they aren't too pleased with that; I'd agree it seems poorly thought out.

We opted for our included breakfast in the lounge, but were reminded we could have had the full buffet in Atelier had we preferred. Once again the lounge was not busy (this was at about 9AM), and we were able to get one of many available seats with a view with no waiting. Many of the prime spots were free as well, but I find the tables by the window to be a bit too low for a proper meal, plus we had the prime view from our room anyway. Breakfast quality was also high, with variety better than I recalled from the last stay.

We checked out down in the lobby at midday, as our key hadn't been re-coded following the later checkout confirmation, so we couldn't get back up to L35; oops! Other than us slowing things down by trying to do a live calculation of how many status points I needed vs paying with more ALL rewards points, it was pretty efficient, and we were soon on our way back home in an overpriced Uber (forgot that the Everest was running on Saturday!).

Clearly it was a mostly great stay, and we'll almost certainly be back for something similar again, but I'm also hoping that it might be with prices reduced to reflect the impact of the completed tower next door!

Welcome amenity and views from the suite (3308):

It still is part of Marriott (as a result of being bought by MGM and MGM switching from Hyatt to Marriott).

I was there last week - you have to be WP or above though. I can assure you nothing works at the Cosmo at the moment, they've got the worst of both worlds having been acquired by MGM, but not benefiting from the automated systems that all of the other MGM casinos have (those have digital check in and print your own room key kiosks).

When I was there (just after Covid), they just used the few left most counters of the check-in desks for priority. Even let a pleb gold like me use it.
