How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Noob with the router setup that seen on ozbargain.... but that's exactly what I'm referring to... just a bit of how to do in accor hotels as looked behind TV today and saw white box that Ethernet plugged into before onto TV. Figure wired better than Wi-Fi. VPN recommendation too?

Sometimes you can use the ethernet from behind the TV, sometimes that network isn't connected to the internet though. Just bridge the wifi as @sudoer mentioned. While most hotels advertise wired and will have a socket at the desk, 90% of the time it's not actually connected.

My VPN is back to my home. I also use my home DNS so I'm not leaking DNS info to whatever DNS server the hotel has decided I should use.

In most rooms there's an ethernet connection near the desk, but if not, these support bridging the hotel wifi (including signing into the captive portal) which works fine.

The VPN encrypts your internet traffic, the router's NAT introduces a layer of protection between your phone/laptop and the hotel network.

I use ExpressVPN but any of the reputable providers will work fine

Elevate lounge... they happy to get you coffee and one meal but you have to get your own orange juice for breakfast? Otherwise staff been excellent as a guest

The gym average welll not setup for rehab and machines to modern that require an app to use

Personally a big fan of Nord VPN.
BitDefender have a decent one if you bundle it with the antivirus.

As a fair mini-vacation since moving to Europe, my partner and I visited Heidelberg this weekend. In looking for a place to stay since it's a 3 hour train ride each way (plus uncertainty surrounding the German rail network) we decided to stay in nearby Mannheim on Saturday night as the ibis Heidelberg was close to 200 Euros when I checked. The hotel itself is fairly well placed, it's about 6 minutes by tram from the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) with a number of restaurants and nature areas nearby.

This was arguably one of the nicer Mercure properties I've stayed at for some time. Check-in was fast and efficient, reception upgraded us to the Privilege room which was a room on the top floor with all the amenities (including a complimentary stocked mini bar) along with a Tassimo machine for coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Room was modern with all the things you expect in a good hotel. Those with a severe shub allergy will be pleased to learn that this is a shub free hotel. The hotel also had some other nice touches including a gummy bar and coffee machine in the lobby.

FWIW I use the GL.inet every time and have its wifi MAC cloned to my laptop so I just connect once with my laptop then switch to the router so it can get past the wifi landing page.

I tried this one out last May and decided against staying again. My next stay was at the ParkRoyal. I needed another MEL hotel this last week when i returned from overseas. The ParkRoyal was very expensive so I decided to give the Novotel a second chance.

Regretted it.

As usual, I put a request for a quiet room, away from elevators and not facing runway in my booking. I repeated it when I received a WhatsApp welcoming me the day prior. And I said it again in an e-mail I sent the hotel - this was acknowledged.

Result? Completely ignored, of course. It took an extra 10 mins of the check-in agent faffing around trying to find something like I asked for. In the end, I got a room 2/3 the way down a corridor and facing the car park - but the noise of planes was still very audible.

I asked for the manager's e-mail but was only given the hotel's. However not long after I reached my room I got a call from the manager, apologising. He followed this up with an e-mail, noting that my room was assigned 'automatically by the system'. No cough. Good recovery by him, but he'll hear back from me that they got 2 chances, and blew it.

Oh, someone came knocking a bit later with the welcome amenity but as I was in my 'PJs' buy that time, I thanked them but declined it.

I was disappointed that jets could be clearly heard on the 'non runway facing' side and that alone would put this place on my avoid list. The other stuff seals it.

It is such a shame that a new hotel like that doesn't do the sound proofing right. I've booked the ibis on numerous occasions. Since everything is shared, the Novotel premium is really not worth it. The queues coming off a late night flight (where an airport hotel has the most value) is also consistently lengthy every time I've visited. The self-check-in machines are useless!! So much potential, yet let down every time. Not like there's a cheaper option that offers a better package though.

Have just learnt the Pullman CDG has flown the coop and will become a Radisson at the end of the year.
That was a semi regular stay for us and always been well treated there. Will have to look at other options in the future, tried the Novotel and that was just ok

Decent enough hotel and reasonably well located
However, the Tesoro restaurant was great.
Desk staff weren't very knowledgeable (e.g arrived at 9.30. and bar closed but would expect them to be able to suggest somewhere you could get a drink). They struggled with using Accor giftcards for the bill. Have free chocs/nibbles at 3.30 for all but I didn't partake.

Overnight stay on a quick status run to retain QF WP for my Sep-Aug membership year. Also coincided with an event at one of my favourite breweries in the world - Range Brewing (Newstead) - so was able to check that out while up there in BNE, as well.

First time staying at the Pullman BNE Airport; in fact I can't recall if I've ever stayed at a Pullman, now that I think of it. The hotel is a reasonably short walk from the BNE Domestic terminal, most of which is covered and easy to move through with a small spinner suitcase alongside, but I reckon it could be a bit more of a pain or even a struggle if you had larger / heavier items, or ones that didn't move that well. Coming from the international terminal you'd need to get their shuttle or a taxi, or I suppose if travelling light you could transfer to Domestic on the Airtrain and walk from there.

Check-in was quick and easy, but I can't help but think it would been even easier if I'd been given the option to check-in online... which I wasn't. This said, I did want to make sure they were aware that I planned to settle part of the folio using ALL Rewards points, and so checking in this way was likely best for my situation. They arranged the points redemption there and then, and confirmed my suite was ready, which was good given it was just 1:30PM.

Suite was on the top/9th floor, and had views towards the city and the edge of a runway that didn't seem to be much in use... or at least not at the times I was watching. Well appointed with with most of the usual stuff. Notably they still had single-use toiletries in the bathroom, which felt like a bit of a novelty after the last few years without seeing this in most places. Standard was decent, but must barely scrape into the 5* category that they claim. More like a newish Novotel or Crowne Plaza. Welcome gift of a small box of those Spring Hill Farm slices. No wine; which is fine by me, but also no water... which I would have liked. The only option was tap water with no filter, which was a bit meh.

*After my rather large afternoon and evening out on the beers, I was looking forward to my included breakfast, but unfortunately it didn't hit the spot. Very meager offerings of a poor standard and taste. Scrambled eggs by the scoop that were wet, but still managed to taste dry. Cheap rubbery-skinned and off-tasting chipolatas. No grilled tomatoes! I guess I should have known I was in trouble when I saw tater tots in place of proper hash browns. Pastries were just as sad, and then I got to wash it all down with a bitter UHT orange juice that tasted like the No Frills poppers my mum would get from Franklins for our lunch boxes as kids. I guess they score some bonus points for bringing back childhood memories, at least. Only saving grace was I got to say g'day to a couple of the Wallabies players at breakfast, who were in for what looked like some slices of dry toast for breakfast. Some would say that's fitness related, I would say they've been here before.

Checkout was friendly, quick and easy, and then it was back to the terminal for my WP qualifying flight home. I'd probably stay again if the price was right and I had a need or preference to be close to the airport rather than the city... but given it doesn't take that long to get into town, and you have the Airtrain option for that as well, I think better off just staying in town. And if there is a next time, I will save my stomach for breakfast at a QF lounge, which is saying a fair bit!

Recommend: Maybe, Rooms are nice but small as most movenpicks, platinum with free breakfast in the restaurant is nice.

Last weekend I was in Hobart for an event, couple of functions and activities , I picked the movenpick for this trip, 4th one this year, last time in Hobart stayed at the sandy bay mantra.

Hotel is not bad, but comes in 4th out of 4 movenpicks stayed at this year.

Only a nod to status recognition on checkin, though did get a small upgrade which was appreciated.

Really did not spend too much time at the hotel, as had activities from morning to evening and associated functions, but the bed was comfortable and a good shower which was appreciated.

Made chocolate hour on one day, selection was pretty poor compared to the other movenpicks I have stayed at.

Breakfast was good though I think I got new staff as they did not point out the continental, I did not know it was there until I was leaving the first day as it’s tucked down the side and I was seated out of view. The cooked dishes are very good though. And a nice wine list, even for welcome drinks.

I usually go to Hobart once a year, I may stay here again
