Second hotel my girlfriend stayed at in Germany whilst looking for apartments in Marburg. This booking was made way back in June when Accor was running a 25% off promotion for Europe which included fully flexible, pay at hotel rates. I booked this speculatively in case we needed to arrive in Germany early (indeed I booked a further 2 weeks here which we ended up cancelling as we managed to find an apartment on Monday and move in on Saturday just as we're supposed to check out of here).
As for the hotel itself, it's pretty good for a Mercure. Fairly modern and clean so not much to complain about here. If you have been to a Mercure before you'll know exactly what to expect, that is a mid-scale hotel. Location wise we're about a 5 minute walk (if that) from the Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) - main train station of Frankfurt. The only concern about this hotel really is its location, as it seems everything near the Hbf is sketchy (more so than even San Francisco).
At check in I had a double bed room booked for my partner and I however the check in agent seeing our 4 bags, offered us an upgrade to a superior room on the 1st floor that had more space and a couch:
Interestingly enough this hotel had a minibar with coke, beers and bottled water, which unfortunately I couldn't raid as it wasn't part of MGallery. There is a coffee machine but I couldn't manage to get it to work (I chalk that one up to the machine needing a good descaling). There were two chairs in the room which was helpful as it allowed my girlfriend and I to scour the apartment listings at the hotel before going out to get various administrative activities attended to.
The bathroom was modern, and for those who have a serious shub allergy, you won't be suffering here:
One other thing I should point out is that the service at the hotel was on point. On several occasions I needed to ask for things we didn't have (i.e. spoons and knives to eat food we bought outside) and they gave us what we needed no questions asked.
Would I recommend staying at this Accor property? Absolutely. It's a modern and clean hotel room near the train station. Certainly if you can find this hotel for this price and you need to be taking the train daily from Frankfurt, it's a must.
As an aside, and I suspect some people are wondering why were we staying in the German capital* of Frankfurt when we could've just as easily found a hotel in Marburg (where we planned on living). Couple points here: first hotels are super cheap in Frankfurt compared to Marburg (i.e. 50 Euro a night compared to 70 or 80 Euro per night). Second, I want to stay at a chain when I am abroad due to potential language barrier issues. I've stay at independent hotel in Germany and struggled to check in. Second, we weren't sure whether we would end up living in Marburg given how tricky it can be finding an apartment and so planned on looking at apartments in nearby Gießen. Third, it is much easier to set up services like a bank account from Frankfurt than Marburg. Fourth, it's cheaper to live in Frankfurt thanks to apps like TooGoodToGo. Fifth, it is much cheaper to get a rental car from Frankfurt airport than elsewhere (which we needed to move our 4 checked bags to our new apartment and do some shopping at Ikea) . And for those about to chime in and ask, but what about all the train tickets you had to buy to go between Frankfurt and Marburg, remember, there is the Deutscheland ticket which offers unlimited travel on RB, RE, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and other buses and local transport for 58 Euros per month. For those interested in buying such a ticket, I would recommend looking at the app mopla, which allows you to buy the ticket using your credit card (other sites require a German bank account), and also let you cancel the Deustcheland ticket subscription at the end of the month.
