How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Overall a lovely property, interested to see where they price themselves compared to the other 5 star options.
Looks nice. The nights I’m looking at it is more expensive than the Sofitel and Fairmont but TBH I’m not a huge fan of the later

Interesting about Sofitel as that's just a few blocks away and probably the most direct Accor competition in market. I'd book the Sofitel if it's cheaper.

Mondrian might come down in price once they have Accor Plus rates loaded. They also mentioned the weekends had been fully booked so far (albeit with very limited inventory) mostly by locals wanting to use the pool/rooftop..

Staff were great, exec lounge put on a good spread for happy hours 1730-1930.

Overall this was an incredibly disappointing stay. I booked this as a bit of a treat for Mrs H and Miss H at the start of a five week trip where we’ll be in far more budget friendly options. There were some clear highlights, but on the whole failure to deliver published benefits and poor service at times makes this an overall fail.

PROS:
  • Booked two nights as SNU. Then an airline schedule change meant we need a third night. Booked base rate for night three expecting to move rooms. On check-in was granted a corner suite with bay view for all three nights. Seemed to be an upgrade even on the SNU.

  • Breakfast buffet in Spiral restaurant was outstanding. It’s massive and has made to order food stations with breakfast cuisine from myriad nations. There’s also a “cheese and cold cuts room” and a dessert bar… can’t beat ice cream at breakfast.

CONS:
  • Arrival at 2300hrs, but checkin still took almost 10 mins when we just wanted to get Miss H to bed. Paperwork not pre-filled. Drink vouchers were written out while we waited etc. Just unnecessarily slow.
  • Arrived in room to find sofa bed not made up despite pre-arrival email requesting this. A further ten mins waiting for housekeeping.
  • Requested firm pillow off the pillow menu and was deliver two additional soft pillows?!!
  • But this was the real kicker… Club Millesime access denied with Miss H. Showed website screen shot that access was 9yo and older. Lounge dragon wouldn’t budge.

  • Went to reception and asked for manager. Manager also wouldn’t budge but offered to book us a table at the downstairs bar and provide snacks. Not even close to comparable to the full buffet in Club Millesime. This was a major fail for me given it was a clearly published benefit and I specifically booked this as a treat for the family.
  • Service at the bar was incredibly slow and in no way 5 star.
  • Ordered a red wine and watched as the as waiter walked through reception, took the lift and reappeared soon after with a half consumed bottle of red wine, presumably from Club Millesime. It was slightly comical given the same wine was on the list at the downstairs bar.
  • Served warm rolls with butter as an apology for slow service, but the butter appeared to be half used from a previous guest and covered with some baking paper.

  • Finally at check out there was a mystery charge of PHP50. I asked what it was for an was told “it’s for the cats”. It’s only about $1.50 Australian, but after being denied lounge access for three days I insisted it be removed as a matter of principle.

I expect singles and couples may have a very nice experience. But families should avoid.

Sofitel Manila is now very firmly on my do not stay list.

I would highly recommend raising a ticket with Accor under the 'benefits not applied' category.


Best specify in your initial contact what you would consider reasonable compensation e.g. refunding of SNUs, or crediting of ALL points. If you happen to have specific staff names that's also worth including.

If asking for compensation in points, I would suggest using the same cost the property sells Millesime access to external guests for, and asking for ALL points to the value of 3 Millesime guests x 3 nights.

I stayed here years ago and recall a very poor stay with a couple of issues. One was a full blown private concert being played in the area where the water play area is now. Incredibly loud, blaring straight into room late into the evening. How was this ever thought to be OK? Took several requests - the last a demand, to be moved to the other side of the hotel. Unfortunately, the patrol dog kennels were underneath, with a dawn ‘chorus’.
 
Add me to the list who have been underwhelmed with it and added to my banned list. Gave them 2 attempts and service was sloppy and status recognition extremely poor. Definitely one to avoid and we have had 4 stays at the Conrad now and it’s like chalk and cheese so that has become our go to in Manila.
I’d definitely raise the matter with Accor as it’s quite frankly unacceptable

I'm going to Manila for a few nights in January and was thinking to give it a try, but also hold HH*D so the Conrad is a possibility

I'm an Accor ALL Platinum member. I've recently returned from about six weeks of solo travel in Singapore, London, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Arnhem and then an array of locations in Germany. My usual practice is to pick an Accor hotel that meets my location needs etc, and then book the cheapest room availiable. If I get an upgrade, I'm pleased. If not, I get what I paid for.

Most of the hotels I stayed in (typically Ibis, Ibis Styles, Mercure) were quite adequate. I always received the Welcome Drink voucher, free basic internet, and usually a couple of bottles of water as well. I was surprised to be upgraded in Glasgow to a Privelege Room, with a street view for my week-long stay, in Arnhem (two nights) to a room with a kitchenette, in Berlin (six nights) to a Privelege Room with a free mini-bar and high-speed internet, and in Mainz (three nights) to a Privelege Room with a free mini bar.

The hotels were all quite adequate, clean, quiet and friendly. Room rates in Germany seem to be well below the rates for comparable rooms in Australia.

It was only the following day that it occurred to me that having names of staff would have been useful.

But certainly plan to lodge a complaint.

No, sorry haven’t tried it.
The Conrad is often double or more in price but have given us great service and status recognition as well as being in a great location.
Mrs Jase loves it because I can catch up with some work on my laptop and she can just walk next door to the MOA which is safe and keeps her amused for hours.

Checked the app again, at least 3 Grand Suites available. Went back down to reception, showed my phone app to the same receptionist. Got upgraded to 7th floor suite, happy. Could have upgraded on arrival, would have been nice.

Unpublished benefit is drinks and so called tapas nightly in the bar. Cold meats, cheeses and biscuits. Mini Bar Non Alcoholic drinks also gratis.

Nice hotel, great location.

Site is a complex of three apartment blocks and some proportion of them are managed by Peppers. Check in was very slow; all details seemed to be needed to be copied onto the local system. Asked for CC and agent said, "Yes, I'll be charging $280 .... " I replied, "No, its mostly paid by points - can you check please ..." She corrects herself " Ah, yes, charge of $180". Me: "No, I think its much less than that ..." Finally, she comes to correct amount of $80. Hmmmm ....

I was in an apartment at the point of the Flat Iron building, the furthest away from check in. Take lift to L6, where a podium connected all 3 buildings, walked through the other buildings to mine, then another lift to L19. Front reception closes at 10am, so access after that is from a side door.

I stayed here as it was next to an evening dinner I was going to and also the FV train station from the airport. I'd have to have a similar good reason to stay here again. Besides the other quirks, the bedroom carpet was stained all over (looks like permanent type stains); should have been acknowledged on check-in; I reported it when I went out that evening. Every time I got in the first lift (reception to L6), met groups of young blokes carrying stubbies of beer and/or cans of spirits & mixers, mostly swearing freely. Not a classy joint.
