How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: Ibis Styles Broken Hill
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Standard Queen Room
Room upgraded/type: Yes Upgraded to a Family room. Just a bigger room with a second queen bed
Rate: 1 night ALL Flexible bed and breakfast 180 paid with points
Free internet: Yes
Early/Late Checkout: Not required
Welcome drink: Would have received a voucher, but the restaurant was closed so no use for it
Welcome gift: 2 bottles of water

Standard Motel Type accomodation in the centre of Broken Hill.
Had a one night stop there and it was absolutely fine for a good nights sleep.
Just don’t expect anything too fancy, it’s still an Ibis Style.
The voucher was useless as the restaurant was closed on this Saturday night, to be fair the receptionist asked if I would like something to drink, which I politely declined.
Also the brekkie option is not very helpful as the restaurant is also closed on Saturday and Sunday morning.
But hey, you are in the outback so you need to be it flexible ;)

If you are ever in Broken Hill and look for a good brekkie spot, go to Soull Cafe on Argent street. Top coffee and delicious food

Property: Sofitel Wentworth Sydney
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked: Junior Suite
Room upgraded/type: Yes, upgraded to a Prestige Suite w/Club Sofitel access (part of rate package)
Rate: 2 nights Accor Plus More Escapes ($359/night)
Free internet: Yes
Early/Late Checkout: Yes, 12pm included as part of rate (granted 1pm checkout on request)
Welcome drink: Received 4 vouchers (see below)
Welcome gift: Bottle of De Bortoli Legacy Cab Merlot, box of chocolates, welcome note
Exec lounge access: Yes

Went to main reception to check in shortly after 2pm. Met by a very friendly and efficient customer service rep who looked up my booking and advised that she could continue to process it, or I as I had Club Sofitel access, I was welcome to check in there. Thanked her, but as I didn't see much point in going to the Club just for check-in, suggested I was more than happy to continue with her. She enquired whether the stay was mother's day related and on determining that it was, headed out back and re-emerged with a gift bag (part of a cross-promotion with Avène). Check-in promptly processed and we headed to the room with all the relevant info + 2 x welcome drink vouchers.

Visited the Club for afternoon tea - very attentive service - then back to the room briefly before re-visiting the Club for drinks and canapés. Again, fantastic service.

Back in the room later that evening, I noticed something had been slipped under the door. Picked up the envelope to discover copies of the hotel and Club info in addition to another 2 x welcome drink vouchers! Happy days!! :D

All in all, a very relaxing weekend. Great service, well-appointed and super comfortable room. Worth noting that the drinks vouchers can be used for a selection of wines, beers, spirits, spritz, soft drinks, teas and coffees.

As a data point for others, this rate was one of those "...book room category A and be upgraded to room category B" deals. In my case, book a Jr Suite and receive a complimentary upgrade to a Prestige Suite. Deal explicitly mentioned daily breakfast in the Garden Court Restaurant along with guaranteed 12pm checkout, but made no mention of Club Sofitel access as an inclusion. Upgraded room category included Club access if booked as standard, so I worked on the assumption it would be part of the deal and this turned out to be the case.

I've apparently earned 2 'suite night upgrades' and I'm going to try using them for a work trip to the Sofitel Wentworth next month. Having never tried to use any before, are there any particular traps for new players in making a SNU booking? (Don't make the booking first and then expect to be able to use the SNU on it later, is one thing I have deduced from the ALL app).

On the website or app you can select the use SNU option on your search dates and you will see it come up. If there are no SNU’s available it will look like this

However if their is SNU availability you will see this

You have to select SNU in your search. There are block out nights. In a recent booking I could not select a Friday Saturday booking although suites were available for booking without selecting SNU. I've taken a Sunday Monday booking at Melbourne Sofitel.
Recently found I need another 2 days in Melbourne so booked the basic room for the Tuesday Wednesday, Wonder if they will move me.
Will let you know next week.

Looks like you were the opposite end of the hotel to me. As you look at the front of the hotel, my room was the very far left end. Assuming yours was the very far right?

Ha! A friend of mine took almost the same photo at the weekend. I was going to ask where they were staying, but I guess I don't need to, now! :D

Cheers,
Matt.

How do you earn suite night upgrades. I’ve not heard of this before ?
You get 2 when you reach 60 days or 14k status points. Each additional 4K status points gets you another 1
For example I earned just over 35k in status points last year so we had 7 SNU’s.

Last year there were some great promotions e.g. fast rack accelerator.

I can't remember what that was all about, but it was a great bonus. Can anyone remember how this came about?
Any chances this may happen again?

Forever hopeful!

Middle of the road stay - standard upgrade, breakfast had room for improvement.

The commercial Nespresso machine at the buffet was curtained off (presumably broken) and all guests at breakfast offered barista coffee instead. The service was very underwhelming and chaotic - I think they were quite understaffed.

Some basic breakfast items were missing including the signs for each dish, condiments for dumplings, and some breads they usually have available. This was 8:30am so not particularly early. Another guest pointed the lack of signs out to staff as he wanted to avoid pork, a few min later they had been put out.

Things were a bit better on the second day - Nespresso machine back but was proactively offered barista coffee as usual (this is almost certainly a Platinum/Diamond perk at this property).

Staff didn't ask if I wanted eggs from the kitchen on either day, but obliged after I asked.

Everything else as per previous reviews - mostly positive.
