How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Since the post on Sofitel Nusa Dua we have received a personal call from the Quality Manager who apologised personally to my wife for her experience. We were touched and have accepted the apology in the spirit it was given.

So who here has used the fee night via Le Club Platinum? As I posted earlier in this thread I renewed my Platinum mship this year I think for $200 - originally free via a CC - but as I had not used the free night from prev year I was able to get that rolled over into new year so 2 free nts.

I have been in communications with Reservations Manager at Sofitel Hyland Shanghai over some rooms later this year and I ran the 2 free nts concept past her. She has advised she can arrange the booking for me - no need contact Accor to do this - I can have their basic room free and upgrade to Junior Suite for RMB200 + 16% Tax. Seems a good deal to me - but the 2 free nts cannot be back to back so I must book 3 nts - 1st nt free / 2nd nt paid / 3rd nt free. Still a great deal and oh so easy to get arranged.

Anybody with similar experience?

Seems you got better deal than me. I payed $259 (also got it originally free from AMEX). Did that only because I completely forgot to use my free night so basically got two nights for $259. Already made one online booking at Sofitel Noosa (cheapest room cost $359).

Free nights can be booked all across Asia Pacific?
In this case I'll use the 2nd night in HKG or SIN.

boomy it may have been $259 I paid - I really do not remember - but the ease of which these bookings can be achieved will suit me down to the ground.

Edit: Hey and even at $259 that is an absolute bargain to get EL access - I had fabulous experiences in the SHS EL 2 weeks ago - well over $259 in value in couple days IMHO.

Wouldn't you love to get HH or SPG EL access for $259?

I have never heard of an Accor Platinum free night? Only the points to reduce fee option €40 for 2000 pts. Do you mean the Advantage scheme?

Edit: im very interested as I have maintained Accor WP for some time with many nights & pts each year.

ozEire, they are taking about the free night that comes with AccorPlus membership

Is that what it is? TBH I have no idea - I never stay at Accor hotels - new card that arrived says ACCORPLUS and further down LE CLUB Platinum - originally this came through Amex Plat or Citi Prestige or some other card - if you churn through 20 odd cards a year bit hard to keep up with what comes with which.

I got a call out of the blue from someone at Accor telling me my mship had expired and if I wanted to nenew and get 1 free nt would cost me $200 or so - boomy clarified to $259. My response was nah but then agent said would roll unused nt from last year into this year so 2 free nts. I agreed to that. After just 1 stay at Sofitel Hyland in Shanghai this $259 is an absolute bargain - already booked the 2 free nts at SH for late Mar and only RMB200 + 16% to upgrade to Junior Suite. SH in SH has a seriously good spread in EL an breakfast there = to or better than WA in SH.

Depends how often you plan to stay at their hotels.

Most of my stays are at Hilton/Hyatt/SPG (currently I have lounge access with all) so it doesn't leave much space for Accor (I do need to spend time at home as well to maintain some sort of sanity ;) ).

I value lounge access at $50 (on average as some worth more while others worth less). So if the Accor Plat would only come with lounge access but no free nights, I wouldn't consider paying $259 just to have another plastic card in my wallet which I barely use.

I also don't get the difference between Accor/AccorPlus/LeClub. All I know is so far I had to carry two cards in my wallet (one for Accor hotels and the other for Accor restaurants 50% off I think) but now all benefits are consolidated in one card, much better.

Accor Plus is the membership card you buy for the free night and discounted dining. Also free breakfast certificate, gives you automatic silver membership and 10% off prices.
Used the free night at Uluru given they're all Accor properties out there and when I tried to use points the price actually jumped up! We used it at sails in the desert? And 10% off the other night really brought the price down. If you're staying out there even once it's worth buying the card. We used the breakfast cert there also, weren't able to use the card discount for breakfast - some new rule about not allowing it at resort dining but we may have used it later for drinks.
I use it in NZ to take dad out to lunch/dinner also or my brother. The 50% off for 2 is good. Unfortunately I've noticed NZ doesn't seem to allow 50% off for drinks but Aussie places seem to. I don't understand that.

Stayed at HI Flinders in MEL and then walked across to Grand Hotel (Accor) for breakfast for 50% off with the card. 25% off by yourself dining.

Still figuring out the programme (still in 1st yr of it) but think it's worth buying although ended up with it through the AMEX card but just waiting for current membership to expire. I will try and get Accor and Accor+ member numbers rolled into one next member yr.

I did read if you have an address in Asia and buy the membership there its actually much better value.

Accor Plus gets some very bad reviews and some good ones. I personally have received good value from this, especially for a period last year when a free bottle of wine was received at the same time as 50% off food for two.

Room upgraded/type: Yes, king room

Rate: Advance purchase/Fully flexible etc

28000 points plus $14 for two nights.

Free internet: Yes

Welcome drink: Yes one voucher for a pot of beer of a glass of wine.

Early check in/late out: 11:30am check in and 12pm check out

VIP treatment: Lol. Bottled water and daily news papers.

Additional care: none noted

General comments: The central location is why I stay there. The all day breakfast from room service wasn't too bad portion wise.

Neil Perry has opened a burger project directly beneath the hotel. I think he has the pizza place also. I'm a fan of burger project in Brisbane so naturally I had a burger in Melbourne.

Property: Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

Room booked: Classic room
Room upgraded/type: Nil. Advised nothing was available, however a subsequent check online showed this was not true.
Rate: standard
Free internet: No
Welcome drink: 1 voucher
Early check in/late out: Not Required or offered
VIP treatment: Nil. There was a choice of 300 points or a selection of amenities. I choose a drink and cheese plate but it never turned up.
Access to executive lounge (if existing): No.
Additional care: Nil. Service was quite poor overall, certainly did not feel like a 5* hotel. Will try the Pullman next time.

Property: Pullman Hyde Park
Status: Plat
Room booked: Superior Queen
Room upgraded/type: Nil. If anything a downgrade, one of those lumpy twins pushed together deals.
Rate: 3=2
Free internet: Didn't work
Welcome drink: 1 voucher
Early check in/late out: Not Required or offered
VIP treatment: Nil. Mention at check-in that amenities would be "sent up right away" but it never turned up.
Access to executive lounge (if existing): Yes, however everything including water is locked away outside breakfast and canapé hours.
Additional care: Nil. Service was quite poor overall, had a real air of penny pinching. Staff have clearly been trained to say "right away" but don't follow through. Like the seinfield hire car sketch, it's easy to take the complaint, but the real point is to *fix* it the first time, or y'know, ever.

Struck off my Sydney list

Just got a rather persistent sales call from Accor Plus as a result of my stays in Perth.

Traveling for one year and staying (mostly) at home the next (paying for the first year) makes status and deals a very thoughtful proposition.

Happy wandering

Property: Pullman on the Park
Booked: Base Room
Received: King Room Exec
Finally commenced their renovation 2 weeks ago but to my despair, they've chose to start with the ground floor and the restaurant which I thought were less in need of uplift than the rooms. Probably they won't be touching the rooms until after the AFL now.

Property: Sofitel Melbourne
Booked: Deluxe King
Received: Deluxe King Corner
Great service as usual. Received a chocolate shaped into F1 car as turndown gift. I commented that I prefer the linen spray that is usually offered and before I know it, there was a knock on the door with 4 of those. This hotel is making it super hard for me to loose my Accor Plat this year.
