Hello Everyone....
I am a frequent traveller and have just stumbled onto your site...
I am enjoying all the tips and interesting stories posted by your members.
I particularly enjoyed the "Beware the Check In naz_ " over at the Open Discussion Thread.
I have a very unusual question...
How does one break into the CSO jobs at Perth Intl Airport.
I have tried to get information and cannot get past the door..
It appears to be a closed shop. As i don't know anyone who works there and i havn;t worked for the airlines i wonder if any Outsiders make it into the inner sanctum..???
Any information of this topic would be very helpful as I am really keen to become a very happy check in chick...
Thanks Larry...

CSO work

:D Wellcome Larry,

I cannot help re PER but many years ago I broke into the closed shop via doing a TAFE Cert in travel in BNE and found a job as a CSO for AN. Back then the internation flts for check in were looked after out of BNE were about 50-50 for Qantas and Ansett. Eg AN did CX, MH, BR, ANA and Star Airlines ect while QF did all One World.

Via TAFE you can learn all the IATA rules etc and basic ticketing, what Open Jaw is, what all the airports, codes are, Eg KIX is Osaka, etc. However, I only did two years, as shift work, eg midnite till 8:00 am took a toll on my body, ten days on with four days off is not enough to recover, for an old bloke like me.

If you are up to it and can do it, just go for it !! I loved it for a while but fell out of love all too soon

Thanks for the reply and the info.
And you are right it seems like a closed shop ..which is a pity for someone like me who'd love the shift work and am experienced in CSO work thru 12 years with the ANZ bank..
I see some of the CSO's out there and wonder why they are in the job???
If there are any Qantas or other Airline people out there who can give me some ideas it would be much appreciated.

Sully...

Ah very good question ...
I suppose you either like customer contact or you don't ..I happen to enjoy the good and not so good aspects of customer contact...the difficult ones are a challenge I suppose...
I'm trained to handle the difficult contacts and just like being out there in the throng ...different strokes for different folks... :D :D
regards Larry.

There's jobs going in Hobart at the moment. :)

Except that the job is at the Hobart Call Centre, that' not quite what Larry was looking for.... :?

But it is one way to get into QF - from there, you can always transfer to Intl, as my former wife did...she was in QF Holidays and went to BNE Intl as a CSO.
