How do I add USM-HKG onto a SYD-HKG-SYD?

Can anyone help with a creative solution to a problem I have.

I've got SYD-HKG-SYD booked in J on QF which was booked during a double SC offer.
I now want to add a HKG-USM-HKG flight.
USM-HKG arrives in HKG at 4pm and HKG-SYD departs at 11:30pm. I don't mind the transit, but I worry that if I can't connect luggage I may spend several hours landside waiting for checkin to open. But I presume I can't connect luggage unless it's the same PNR.

I called QF today asking to add a CX codeshare on a Bangkok Airways for HKG-USM-HKG. They said they couldn't see the CX codeshare (CX6505/CX6502) but could do add the Bangkok airways codes (great!). But after a few mins on hold realised they could only add Bangkok airways when it routes view SIN or BKK. Back to square one.

So what should I do?
I don't want to refund/re-book and lose the double SCs.
I don't mind seperate tickets, but with so many lounges in HKG I'd hate to be waiting around landside for QF checkin to open.

I'd just use separate tickets for USM-HKG and HKG-SYD. When you arrive back in HKG from USM around 4pm, the QF check-in counters should already be open (or very shortly open) for the ~8pm QF departures to SYD, MEL and BNE. So you should be able to check in again straight away. Then, enjoy the lounges in Hong Kong!

As mentioned I wouldn't worry too much about getting PG flights on same ticket.

In HKG you should be able to use transfer desk to get onward boarding passes and also manual transfer of luggage.

For anyone looking back over the thread in future, on the day I was able to get PG to connect my luggage from USM-HKG-SYD. This was two seperate PNRs in Y with PG for USM-HKG and J with QF for HKG-SYD.

Even though I had read reports online that PG were no longer checking luggage through for different PNRs my check-in agent proactively offered to do it after asking how long I was spending in Hong Kong and I said just transiting.

End result.. more time for lounge hopping in HKG.
AMEX lounge had the best range of drinks at the bar
QF had best pork buns
CX The Wing First had awesome cabanas - meh about the seating
CX The Pier First was my favourite. Good restaurant, good bar and I liked the seating.
