First stay here as a diamond. Lovely Hotel. I sent a few emails in the days before and ended up with room 318 which is a corner room overlooking a bit of the lake through the trees. Great room. Basically two together, so two separate bathrooms, one with a bath and separate shower, and the second with shower.
Access granted to the Ambassador lounge which had scrambled eggs, sausages and tomatoes as the hot food for breakfast and an assortment of pastries, cold meats and salad to go with it. We were told if we wanted breakfast downstairs we had to pay the full amount of $34 each, as it was separate to the Hotel.
Evening food was plentiful, and one of the hot dishes changed each night. Everything was self-serve, even the liquor, which made for some nice strong drinks each night.

When we asked for a late checkout we were told that 4.00pm was already in the system, which was nice.
We had a wonderful stay, and only have one gripe, which applies to other hotels as well.
If you give a guest a late checkout, please make sure their keys work up to that time. It is very annoying to have that little red light beep you. Even the second set they sent up wouldn’t work and they had to go and get a master key to let us in.

Every time I have stayed at CBR I have received an Ambassador or Diplomatic Suite minus DSU. Staying during sitting week helps.

I find the lack or reduced upcharge to the restaurant a major issue for such a high end property.

Any pics of the room/view? :p

Thanks for posting! Not bad – looks pretty big!

I always stay at Hotel Hotel when in CBR, so it's good to know what I'm missing out on.

mrsmart, what"s hotel hotel like

The building looks interesting from the outside

It's great, I love it. As with many places in Australia, the staff can be a little inconsistent but the public space downstairs is beautiful, restaurant is superb, and rooms are warm, earthy and cosy.

I think it's at its best in the middle of winter.

My parents live in CBR, so whenever I'm there, I check into HH instead of staying with them :p

deka2 - At the risk of sounding creepy I think I have had that room (or at least a similar "2 normal rooms turned into a Suite"). It really is 2 rooms with an interconnecting door (and in my case had 2 room numbers), but the second bathroom is good when sharing the room.

FWIW, there wasn't a dining table as I asked for a rollaway which they thankfully did on a complementary basis where the dining table is / was.

The Diplomatic Suites at the PH Canberra are the best rooms. Unfortunately I have only ever had them on single night stays.

Property: GH Melbourne
Status: Platinum
Room Booked: Standard King (Corporate Rate)
Room Received: View King (corner room)
Amenity Received: Apparently it was my 15th stay at the GH Melbourne, so had a bottle of wine in the room which was nice.

I like this hotel, but they really don't go above and beyond the minimum. Not that it's bad, but I've never really received an upgrade or anything.

Mind you, the last three times I've stayed here they've failed to properly charge for items used from the mini-bar (in my favour) so I suppose that's something.

Well-located, efficient business hotel. Love the gym.

Well I am not elite.. but I have had a gold passport for a number of years now. Today's experience just confirms why (in my opinion) Park Hyatts are the best. I have stayed in Sofitels, Westins, and Intercontinentals (all very good and again I have the basic card status) but the style of a Park Hyatt is what these other hotels could learn from.

Now if you can indulge me a little (or maybe I should say "warning - ridiculous gushing about to occur") I will document my Park Hyatt experiences... It was love at first sight... when I was in Paris with a girlfriend we had a craving for champagne at about 11am (well we were in Paris after all!).. So, since we were treating ourselves we decided that we would head to The Ritz.. No was the answer. Now I admit we were a little touristy in attire and perhaps a little excited about the whole Paris experience so perhaps this is not the image this hotel was going for.. but just around the corner was the Park Hyatt. I tentatively asked the door staff if Champagne was a possibility and from there the romance began... not only was English no problem, but the welcome throughout the hotel was amazing! We were treated like royalty and it certainly made an impression.

About 3 years later when my partner and I were heading to Paris I really wanted to repay the hospitality that was shown to me on my previous visit, by actually staying at the Park Hyatt, Paris. Again I was not disappointed and everything was perfect. I am very much looking forward to going back there in September 2015.

So in summary.. I have stayed at Park Hyatts in Melbourne, Sydney, Paris and Zurich (and had champagne in Beijing).. I think they have one thing (in particular) in common that separates them from perhaps the other hotels I mentioned.. that is staff. I'm sure it stems from company policy which leads to intensive training but the thing that makes Park Hyatts a seamless, wonderful experience is that no matter what hotel you stay in, and what service you require, the staff member has the skills, desire and authority to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. This includes (and is not limited to) reception, restaurant, house-keeping and front door.. from arranging bike courier transport for conference materials in Melbourne, to welcoming me in Paris that first time, to remembering my name and champagne preference at dinner in Zurich, to generously compensating me for a 5 minute lift outage...

Yes it's expensive but even if you only do it once.. treat yourself.. use points if you have to.. but somehow manage to enjoy all that the Park Hyatt has to offer :)

+1

No status, but I'm a true believer! Have enjoyed Park Hyatt - Sydney (pre/post reno), Canberra, Melbourne, Tokyo, Istanbul, Washington DC, HCMC .... and in a week or so, three nights at Park Hyatt New York :D Hoping it's as good as your Paris experience!

Property: Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo
Status: Diamond
Room booked: grand king plus DSU
Rate: USD179 + for four nights
Received: grand suite king, early check-in, very late check-out, handwritten welcome note, breakfast in restaurant, multiple bottles of water daily, lounge access, evening turndown, two items of complimentary laundry, bottle of wine plus the 1W (which didn't post automatically so became 1500 points)

Property: Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport
Status: Diamond
Room booked: regency king plus DSU
Rate: USD55 + 4k HGP points for one night
Received: business suite king, 1W. The hotel kindly allowed me to both store my luggage for three nights in advance of my stay while I went on a status run and to put in some laundry that was ready for me when I returned. After an AA maintenance issue meant my 11pm arrival became 1pm on the day of check-out, the hotel said they would return my DSU to my account (and they did). They also contacted Gold Passport to ensure that the stay posted as due to the maintenance issue I ended up staying at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport (which looked as though I spent the same night in both Washington and San Francisco). Both stays posted without issue.

Does anyone have experience with Park Hyatt MEL? I've never stayed there, only the GH but have used the Park facilities a few years ago, I have a stay in 3 weeks (GH is $480 for the night, PH $250)

Good Diamond recognition? Wondering if I should use a DSU or not.

Lounge & breakfast are good (better than GH). Gym isn't as good as GH.

Yeah, don't bother with a DSU. As a Diamond member the "standard" upgrade is a Park Deluxe King which is bigger than the DSU suite. If it is genuinely busy, you can get bumped to the bigger suites, especially as a returning Diamond.
