Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Just out of curiosity, with regards to the Hilton Sydney, what is the main difference between their deluxe and premium rooms ? The premium room is more expensive, even though the room size is the same as the deluxe one.

Maybe a bathrobe, slippers, coffeemaker, higher floor. I’ve stayed plenty of times, but always get upgraded from guest/deluxe to something or other.

I’d book based on price. 😉

Thank you DC3. I just booked the premium room for Vivid Sydney. Let's see how it goes (Time for me to work for Diamond status too)

Thank you ! That was very helpful actually.

The Sydney executive lounge will be interesting to see this weekend. First time experiencing some lounge being a Diamond.

Do Hilton Gold members have to pay extra to get the full buffet breakfast at Hilton Sydney?

I can't say from my personal experience as I have only been to Hilton Sydney as either Blue or Diamond member

But when I was there recently as a Diamond member and had a gold member in front I think they were offered an upgrade fee to have full cooked breakfast otherwise it would be just the continental. But this was from what I heard - I was not part of that conversation.

Yes. Been my experience as Gold for the last few years. Can't remember the amount as haven't been for 1.5 years but as the cold options are good and plentiful I always decline.
As a data point a couple of weeks ago I was advised by the trainee at check-in that it was $10 for Diamond to upgrade to the full buffet at Glass. The duty manager confirmed this when I questioned it , much to the annoyance of Shrek and all the others waiting in the line behind us to check-in 🤣

However we weren’t charged at all next day so no idea what they were on about. Hopefully the first and last time the $10 charge is mentioned.

I'm a regular at Sydney Hilton. Had a newbie trainee mention the +$10 charge once before but never charged. My last stay was last Sunday, buffet breakfast still free for Diamonds.

In am back at the MEL Hilton this evening. Apparently I have been upgraded but just seems like the same size room just a few floors higher and tucked into the room 1-3 room alcove.

We checked in there as Gold last year November-ish and then turned Diamond during that very long 14+ nights stay so technically we’re supposed to pay the surcharge. One particular staff member at the buffet itself even tried a hard sell on us on day 2 or so but we declined as the cold options are excellent here.

After the third or so night of our stay, the truly sweet and amazingly welcoming breakfast supervisor told us to also “get some nice hot items” and she wouldn’t make us pay. We enjoyed our bacon from this day onwards. As a matter of fact, we found the service so excellent that we came a few weeks later to give some Christmas chocolates to all the staff. The restaurant is one of the highlights at the Hilton Sydney in my view.

Solid little hotel just three stops on the LRT from KL Sentral or $5 in a Grab. Good rooms, nice executive lounge, lovely staff. Definitely no coffee taxes and the breakfast staff downstairs (no lounge breakfast) will even do you a fresh juice gratis.

Was treated like a commoner because I booked through a third party. Got tired of the staff reminding me of that.

I had booked the lowest room class direct through Hilton for around $50/night more (not sure what was going on in Cairns but the Hilton was $500+ per night). Cancelled that when the Qantas offer appeared and I also got to use a $50 voucher. I would have attempted a price guarantee but a) couldn't be bothered and b) probably would be denied because the room was not the same.

Had to argue with the breakfast staff to get the breakfast that came with the package. I said that I'm Hilton Diamond so I get breakfast anyway, which only gifted the staff another opportunity to remind me that I'd not booked direct. Funny how they knew that but not that I'd booked a package with breakfast. Breakfast spread was acceptable and my daughter and I really enjoyed the make-your-own juicer. Was told barrister coffee was available for purchase.

Didn't get 20% off F&B at The Vine Room as I was only a Blue member according to the staff, who also told us that if we need cutlery it's over near the front counter. We had ordered pasta. Used the Entertainment Book to get 25% instead. I thought they might have stacked.

No sauna, no lounge, mediocre pool. Rooms were fine and the beds were excellent and super comfy. Good TV system and aircon, but bathrooms were tiny to the point I had to stand on an angle in the shower because the hand rail was in the way. Don't see the need for the hand rail because if you can climb into the shower you are agile enough to stand unassisted in the shower. Nothing in the room that an elite who booked direct would expect.

Well, this is why one should never use those aggregators and book direct instead. You get what you pay for and I'm for one am actually super glad to hear that some benefits are still reserved for the real loyalists. Each to their own.
