Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Was hoping to do a stay at Hilton Little Queen to see what it was like, and to at least get one stay in a Hilton for 2021.
Therefore I was pleased to see Matt_01's trip report. However I am not at all sure that I will look forward to a stay at this hotel after reading of his experience. The rooms look institutional, and I note that the 3 categories of rooms range from 28sqm to 31sqm. This is definitely small for a Hilton. Even the entry level room at Four Points Docklands is 28sqm, and because of the design feels relatively spacious.
In regard to room service the steak and fries looks pitiful. You'd think they could at least have put a garnish on the plate!
In addition room rates are often $300+ a night. There are better hotels at better prices than this.

@jakeseven7 I lived in Melbourne for many years so I know there are quite a lot of good places to eat. I had been at the Mitre for a couple of hours and needed to get some work finished, also I am not a fan of the ‘table for one’.

@ric_melb I believe there will be suites available at some point but these are not available at the moment.

I agree. Could feel quite tragic hanging out for a few hours at a table for one.
☹️

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Room booked: King Guest Room (weekend night cerficate)
Received: Pretty sure it was the king guest room (level 9), only partial ocean views on the southside of Orchid Tower.
Other notes: I thought the welcome letter was poor - it mentioned Diamond loyalty, but also said something like "are you aware of our Hhonors program, sign up here..." Thought it could be more tailored than that!
No mention of free water or anything but we took the two out of the fridge! No other minbar or anything stocked.
Sessions in the 'Excec Lounge' on Level 2 were decent and enjoyed full breakfast in catch and 'one complimentary coffee' the lady almost whispered as we sat down.

Fair enough each to their own, doesn’t bother me being a super frequent solo business traveller I’m used to it, no one cares (only you if you let it) and I know all the places where you can sit at bar/communal tables and hang especially in Melb. Anyway way off topic!

Back on the decor on at the hotel, I mean I know they have a brand toolkit, but this is Melbourne, they have licence to do something a little creative. It looks just like a beige box!

OT too but as a single female traveller always find a table for one better than sitting in a soulless hotel room

Have a upcoming Cairns Hilton stay as a diamond and wondering if anyone has recent experience re exec lounge benefits/breakfast etc?

Thanks in advance

I stayed there on NYE as gold (that stay earnt me diamond). I was upgraded to exec floor.

EL closed, drinks and canopies in the Gin Social on the ground floor - roped off area for the complimentary section. Service was really slow (to be fair it was NYE) and was lucky to get one drink in, never offered food but it was being handed out to certain tables who’d been waiting longer than me.

Breakfast is in the restaurant, $10 upgrade for hot. I elected to do so but was never charged.

I also paid the extra to get the premium internet as standard was slow, it was on the bill left at my door on the day of checkout but was removed before I got to the desk (without me asking). The staff were really friendly, I think they were excited to have the hotel near full again.

Nice hotel, I’m going back next month for a weekend.

Would you have anything for us on your recent Hilton Cairns stay?

Did the trip go okay?

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Room Booked: King Room $224
Status: Diamond
Received: Relaxation Suite L14 (it was a quiet Monday night), two free bottles of water at check in desk, full hot breakfast at Catch, complimentary barista coffee, afternoon tea and drinks at EL.

While the Suite looked a bit tired the staff in the hotel and EL are always lovely.

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise

Room Booked: Hilton King Guest Room (entry level)
Received: Hilton King guest room until I became a verbal nuisance then received Hilton King Executive room, (nothing special)
Rate: $117.00 plus 30000 points
Recognition: The usual thank you for your loyalty BS at checkin, informed about the EL offerings, had to pre-book for the canapés , either in at 5.00pm and out by 6.30 or in at 6.30 and out by 8.00pm. Also the promise of 2 bottles of water to the room which never arrived.
General opinion: Wont bother again

Date: May 2021
Hotel: Hilton Sydney
Booked: King Guest Room
Received : Junior Suite

Firstly, thank you Yun for the upgrade - the extra space was greatly appreciated.

Stayed from.a Saturday to. Monday. The EL was in the Zeta Bar and in the Glass Restaurant on Sunday. The canapés offer was pretty lame on both nights however the drinks service was much better at Zeta where I could order drinks direct from the bar. At Glass, I had to wait for a waiter to come around and take my drinks order, which wasn’t very often as the lounge was busy.

the rest of the stay was uneventful. The breakfast is full self service - a nice change from Queensland ‘s Hiltons where you have to queue up to be dished your food.

I've stayed at this property a LOT. It is easily my most stayed at Hilton property. However this is the best upgrade I've ever received even when I was previously diamond. I've found this property to generally be pretty tight on upgrades and rarely get anything more than I booked and if I do its usually just a 1 room type jump (Interior room without a window to a room with a window). I imagine likely the reason I received so few upgrades here is its usually quite busy as for several years this was the only Hilton property and is pretty small.

I didn't have breakfast this stay but I was here a couple weeks ago and had the al a carte breakfast (no buffet as the usual covid measure) and honestly I enjoyed the cooked to order breakfast over the buffet previously.

With all that said, despite the lack of upgrades I've always enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Staff are always helpful and efficient but not overbearing.

Booked: King Guest Room
Received: King Loft Federation View

First time staying at this hotel. I got upgraded to the loft room on the top floor and I was told it was newly renovated. The room is big and modern and exceeded my expectation. I am very glad that I took this hotel above the new Hilton Melbourne hotel.

In terms of breakfast, it is buffet during the weekend and la carte during weekdays. Due to covid protocol you have to queue for the buffet where a staff member will walk with you and pick the food you want, certainly a strange experience. I prefer the la carte, where you can order 1 main + juice + coffee/chocolate per person.

The location is really good and it is right opposite to Flinders Street station, would definitely stay at the hotel again if I need a place to stay at Melbourne CBD.

This is my first stay as a Diamond member and at the Darwin Hilton.

Property: Hilton Darwin

... Will see what their breakfast is like tomorrow morning!
Good Diamond breakfast/coffee was it? 😀

As a single female traveller I prefer this too, but mainly because I don't like the smell of food where I sleep which is why I don't eat in my bedroom ;)
