Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

This is a beautiful property where we were treated wonderfully. I highly recommend it.

On morning of check-in I could select an executive room on a high floor. However all were closish to the elevator. I only arrive around 10pm and made mention that I didnt want a room close ot the elevator. Was informed that was the only option for an executive room but could have a room on a lower floor and maintain EL access. I said no problem the rooms are all the same, right? Was told yes, but the executive rooms have a bath tub while the more basic ones don't have a large shower. Gladly accepted this.

Was also told I could bring one or two guests to the EL. That was a new one. Didn't test it though.

This property is in desperate need of refurbishment. Public areas are poorly maintained and rooms have bad musty smell. We changed few rooms until eventually giving up and settled in Spa room on level 8. We later decided to cut our stay short and move to a nicer hotel.

When: 2 separate nights, 5 nights apart in March 2019 (arrival and departure days)
Rate: 5000 points
Received: 1 bedroom suite both nights. 4x bottles of water.
Status: Diamond

Excellent use of points. The first night we were leaving before breakfast the next day so we got 2000 points (the current promo) plus 750 points MyWay benefit .... so total cost of 2250 points for a 1 room suite! First one was a corner suite which had a separate room with full dining table and lounge suite. Second one (non corner) had an extra small desk, without the dining table.

Only real hiccup was there was no airport shuttle to be found on arrival (despite us providing our flight details). We waited around for 15 min then just walked. We've done this walk to other hotels many times so knew the way but it's not one to attempt on your first trip to Bali (have to walk on the main road, dodge boom gates, taxi touts and often dogs!!). We could have phoned them but hey we're cheap and nasty.

It's about a 12-15 min walk to Kuta shops etc if you are so inclined. Petrol station with ATMs, some restaurants are about a 5min walk away. Breakfast is chaotic with quite a few tour groups, mainly chinese.
 
You’re lucky you got the points at HGI Bali. Mind didn’t post for the 1 award night’s stay but I couldn’t be bothered chasing.
 
Mrs GPH is the Hilton elite member so my grumble is as a no status +1.
We are staying at the Hilton Sydney ( I usually avoid this place
Like the plague). However I need a central location with a place to have a business meeting. Of the last 3 or 4 stays here over the last couple of years I am yet to feel the love. The breakfast here is on a par with HSP and for some reason ( it must be a Hilton thing) the chefs are not required to know how to cook an egg !!! Aside from having to ask twice for a pot of tea which wasn’t Luke warm, the buffet breakfast since my last visit over 12 months again as I recall , has actually fallen markedly in quality. I already thought it to be average !!
Mind you, anyone who knows me, knows I dislike a buffet of any kind. But breakfast is generally an exception to the rule .

If it will make you feel better I stay around 25 stays a year for the last 4 years or more and occasionally will only get a deluxe room upgrade. To be honest I am finding the more stays I do the less decent upgrades I receive compared to previous years.

I’m not even that worried about upgrades. I just wish they did the basics properly!

Wow. Just, wow! Never have I seen such lack of ability by hotel staff.

Room 1: We got to the hotel at about 1100 so we said we were more than happy to drop our bags and come back. We were told our room was ready so that was a bonus. We headed up to room 402. Now my profile is very clear that I like a high floor away from the elevators. This was anything but. So we headed back down to ask if there had been some misunderstanding with accessing my profile. Apparently I had just been offered the first room the staff member had seen - so the only issue with my preference was that it had not been considered at all. (Note that it is a ten floor hotel, so the fourth level is about as low as possible.) :confused:

Room 2: The staff member had a look and said we could have room 825 but it was not ready. As we were expecting to drop our bags anyway we did just that and went for a walk. At about 1400 we came back to be given our keys. Now, on the eighth floor the rooms go from 1 to 25. up one side and back the other, so room 25 was actually closer to the elevator that the previous 402. Back downstairs. by this time time my travelling companion was hiding near the elevators as I was starting to fume! :eek:

Room 3: The staff member said she was sorry she didn't realise it was closer (than 402). What! Has she never walked the floors to see the bl**dy product she is bl**dy well selling? I was gobsmacked. She then had another look and offered us room 811. She made a point of calling house-keeping to check the room was good to go. We got upstairs to find the door ajar and room untouched since the previous occupant had left it! :mad:

Room 4: Back downstairs, and I asked for them to call us a taxi and book us into another hotel. This time we were served by a very apologetic duty manager offering all sorts of reasons about computers crashing and info not available about clean rooms. I really don't give a flying #### why you stuffed up. I do give a #### that you fix it. She offered us room 901! o_O See where I am going with this? She said it was a junior suite and there highest level of room and there were two doors between the corridor and bedroom. (Actually there aren't.) She offered to take us up to it and show us. So upstairs. Again. There was the suite with a king bed in the bedroom and fold out bed in the lounge. *sigh* My travelling companion was happy with the sofa bed as she isn't troubled by corridor/elevator noise, so we accepted - grudgingly.

Whilst we were out a fruit platter was delivered to our room with an unsigned form letter apologising for "the discomfort or distress you might have experienced". Semantics, I know, but that is not taking responsibility for ####ing us around.

Footnote: it was only later that we noticed the bathroom was missing the toilet roll holder, the fridge door didn't close properly, and the pod coffee machine was missing coffee pods.

London , now run by Eastern Europeans, who have brought their hotel and work standards with them.
I was bitterly disappointed with London on my last visit and I can see why some would have voted to go in the Brexit referendum.
I would argue that London is no longer and English city. Very sad indeed.

Never had any issues in London Hiltons so far but I did have some sour experiences in other Western European cities like Paris and Brussels. In general I found Eastern European hospitality to be more kind and warm.
 
Conrad Osaka
Booked Exec King (hoped for a suite upgrade as Diamond)
Given Corner Exec King.
Pretty disappointed with lack of a decent upgrade as suites were there and available but the Japanese can be very "by the book".
Should have just booked a base room and would have gotten similar and saved $, but it's all as per the T+Cs so can't complain.
Breakfast is very good, better than Tokyo. Smaller buffets than most of asia but quality is there and made-to-order dishes are excellent (also a little different, which helps). It's on a 3 day rotating roster of food as far as I could tell.

Hilton Niseko
Booked Yotei View King, given deluxe or family room king. Little difference between base and the penultimate rooms at this hotel. The view changes but the size and fitout really don't. Save your $ and go base if you go here at all.
No significant changes since my last stay, which is good because the nickel and dime-ing and deterioration of the product was getting tiresome.
This hotel is slightly more isolated than most so I recommend a hire car to get to Hirafu or a dinner package. Shuttles exists and are plentiful but so annoying in the snow!

Interesting observation. I’ve actually found the Conrad Osaka breakfast to be not as good because it lacked the fantastic Japanese breakfast served at Conrad Tokyo as part of their a-la-carte menu.

I'm not a huge fan of traditional Japanese breakfast myself, and the hotels are so close that it's down to the small differences. The takoyaki benedict and okonomyaki benedict, the soba noddles and the various lobster dishes to order really made it for me.

I stayed in mostly Hilton’s throughout Eastern Europe (sans @GPH). Very happy with my experience and treated like royalty in Vienna for example, with an upgrade to a waterfront suite before I had any status. What a waste for one!
