Hotel: Hilton South Wharf

Date: June 11th 2017
Booked: King Guest Room @ $161/night
Received: Exeucitive Room

Last stay at HSW before change over I would say. Checked in about an hour early and first thing when we opened our the door was a very strong smell of BO. It was unbearable, not sure if it was the previous guest or housekeeping but I had to say something to the front desk. Went out for a few hours and they changed rooms for us. Although in that room the AC was saying 19c but we felt a lot warmer than that!

Breakfast in the restaurant this morning, had to pay the extra $10/ea for the full buffet so skipped that and decided just best to have a quick bite and move on.

Will be a shame once the hotel leaves the portfolio and is definitely going to make me look closer to SPG for Australia/China (main markets I'm in)

Seriously? That's all you need to do? Jeez how simple is that? Tks a million Daver6.

Apparently so. MrsDaver6 noticed her points all went missing. Turns out due to lack of activity, but HH hadn't sent any warning emails. She called up and in the end got the points re-instated. She was also informed buying points counts as keeping the account active.

I got msg from Award Wallet on iPad today - only way I knew - no activity since Sept 10, 2016 - so I just bought $10 worth of pts so again Tks for the tip.

Cant believe I am still Dia until Mar 31 2018 either - I thought it had expired Mar 31 this year.

I also extended my points by buying the minimum points for $US10. Simple and easy.

Unfortunately I have to stay in Hilton hotels with some regularity, but good to know the point buying tip.

I think I have only ever received the wine when my room was not upgraded.

Booked - King Guestroom Plus @ $160 Amex 20%
Received - Executive

Sunday night staycation (along with another AFFer who got similar treatment).
Upgrade popped up on the app on Sunday morning.

Generic gold letter that has a tick box for getting/not getting Exec access.

Exec lounge wasn't that busy. Rotating food offerings included fresh prawns, ham pizza, Jamaican chicken sticks and vegetable gyoza with some spring rolls making a late appearance.

Just arrived yesterday. The upgrade was initially offered at cost until I pushed back and received it as a comp. Nice room and appreciate the space to work and relax in. Will update later with Lounge and breakfast details.

I am a diamond and have stayed 3 times so far this year without an upgrade to an executive or relaxation room. Staying this Sunday night, although I have two rooms booked so we will see.

Albeit as a Diamond who gets Exec Lounge anyway, a Deluxe Plus room is probably better (due to the bottle of wine).

It's really only the Relax Room and Suites that's an upgrade.

A few European data points from Hilton Garden Inn Seville:

HH Diamond

Hilton Garden Inn Seville:
Date: 20-22 June
Rate: cheapest advanced booking 69 Euro
Received: double room top floor
Excellent value for money hotel with a great breakfast, wifi and received late checkout until 3pm no issues. The free shuttle service to and from city centre is additionally very useful and handy way of cutting back on transport if it suits your plans.

Hilton London Gatwick:
Date: 10 June
Rate: cheapest advanced purchase 110 pounds
Booked: base received excecutive
Very very uninspiring property that has even longer walks from elevators to rooms than Hilton Berlin. The exec lounge was very poor with dated decour, very basic food offerings lucky I had come from a BBQ with colleagues otherwise I would have had to return to the terminal.

Hilton Barcelona
Date: 11 June
Rate: cheapest advanced purchase 160 Euro
Booked: base room received executive room
Not a bad property with fairly modern rooms and offerings of an evening in the exec lounge. The property really lacks an outdoor pool and the location is not convenient. Would not stay at this property again given the high level of hotel competition in Barcelona.

Upgrades at Sydney are unreliable at the best of times and I have found unless you stay a few times a month there is a lot of competition from other diamonds. I had a run of Junior Suite upgrades but then on my last stay only managed a deluxe room upgrade on a quite night although on arrival I was able to change this to a room on level 36 easliy.

Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport
22 June 2017
Booked: Hilton Twin
Rate: ¥9,072 (flash sale rate)
Received: Deluxe Plus Twin (a two category upgrade)

Arrived around 8am and told would have me to wait till noon to get any room or the formal check-in time of 3pm to get the pre-upgraded room I had chosen in the app. Received pool/health club vouchers to use before we received our room, so we killed time with a swim and a visit to Naritasan temple (recommended). Got back around 2pm, and pre-selected room wasn't ready but received another Deluxe Plus Twin without any further wait. The twin beds are not really big enough for 2 adults to share, so Miss & Mrs 2tall4Y shared one and I got one fo myself.

Free breakfast for all three of us (sounds like would have had to pay for my daughter if she was 10 or older), which was a bit of a zoo right after the 6.30am start with a longish queue to get a table and then an even longer queue for the hot items (was very happy to give them a miss before a visit to the First Class Sakura lounge at NRT ).

I have reservations at both Seville and Barcelona in January. Happy to hear about Seville as we were a little unsure. RE Barcelona, How inconvenient are we talking RE the location? I have never been to Spain. Is public transport close by? Cheers.
