Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Have a few Hilton Group stays coming up in July/August since Conrad Maldives back in January 2020. Still a diamond thanks to the Hilton extensions and might as well make the most of the status while I still have it. Definitely hoping for some nice upgrades, but won't cry if I don't get any. It'll be the first time at all of them except Conrad Centennial Singapore. Stays include: Hotel Camille Paris Gare de Lyon, Conrad London St James, Alexandra Barcelona, Lost Property St Pauls London (brand new!), Hilton Zurich Airport, Hilton Munich City.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these properties. As an aside, do you go out of your way to stay in Hilton Group properties? That's quite a few coming up!

Only because I'm still diamond and if the property is conveniently located. I've got a Radisson Blu, Swissotel and an independent hotel booked too because there is no Hilton Group nearby. I did consider doing mostly ALL, but didn't go ahead at the end because of the poorer standard, prices and benefits.

Property: Conrad Centennial Singapore
Status: Diamond
Room booked: Premium King
Rate: Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (rate was SGD$50 more than booking direct, but included USD$100/SGD$128 property credit)
Received: Centennial Suite

Good Friday was my first time staying at the Conrad Singapore and also my first stay at a Hilton property since becoming Diamond after several years as Gold. The one-night stay was booked via Amex FHR's US portal so my HH number could be attached during booking, rather than needing to involve the Platinum Travel team. The booking showed up in my Hilton app within minutes of booking.

Two days before arrival, the front desk contacted me through the app asking whether they "could do anything to make [my] stay amazing". I half-jokingly (..ok maybe 1% jokingly) responded that a suite upgrade would make the stay amazing, this was met with a response that all suites were booked but they would happily upgrade me if one becomes available. I also confirmed through chat that spa treatments could be charged to the room and the FHR property credit used to offset the charges, then made a spa booking.

The night prior I noticed that a Centennial Suite had opened up for booking, so I sent a message referencing the previous discussion and asked politely whether an upgrade would be possible. The answer was yes (!) however the suite was on a lower floor and would not be ready until 3-4pm. This wasn't an issue as I'd already arranged 4pm check-out from the SO/.

At this point I also used the Hilton app to swap the payment method from my pre-filled Platinum Charge across to the Hilton Aspire Amex in the hopes of earning 14X HH points on the transaction and avoiding a 3% forex surcharge.

I arrived at about 3:15pm and there was no queue at the front desk. Reception confirmed the upgrade and mentioned some of my included benefits through FHR. They didn't request to see/swipe the Plat card and I gave my Aspire for the security deposit with no issues. I was given two pages explaining benefits, one for FHR and the other Exec/Suite entitlements. There was no mention of my status I wasn't entirely sure whether the upgrade was due to booking through FHR, but I was more concerned about whether the stay would earn points as there are mixed reports online about this.

Exec & suites receiving 20% off spa treatments was a nice bonus I wasn't expecting.

At 63sqm the Centennial Suite is not gigantic but still a decent step up from a guest room and has a functional layout. The bedding was very comfortable and the suite had two discrete air conditioning zones in the bedroom & living room with separate thermostats and fan levels. The aircon was strong at the highest fan level (important in Singapore!) and quiet at the lowest level.

The living room TV was about 70" and the bedroom TV about 55". There was an abundance of international power sockets throughout the suite in useful locations such as both bedside tables, multiple at the work desk, etc. The bathroom (not pictured) was quite large with a separate toilet connected off the bathroom, double basins, and separate shower & bath. Bathroom amenities were Shanghai Tang, the shampoo, conditioner, body gel and lotion were in fixed refillable bottles. Body soap and face soap bars, a comb, toothbrushes, and various other amenities were in a drawer under the basins.

I was also relieved to see a Diamond welcome card and gifts of fruit, chilli crab tempura crackers, cookies, dried fruit, and two soft drinks - the first absolute indicator of status recognition and eligibility to earn points!

View attachment 274985 View attachment 274984

When checking in the front desk asked if I'd like to join the 3:30pm afternoon tea session. While I'm not usually that keen on afternoon/high tea, the timing worked well and I was keen to check out the exec lounge. So I agreed and headed up with my laptop in hand to fire off a couple of emails. The selection was fine, exactly what I'd expect at an exec lounge afternoon tea. (side note - the EL afternoon tea & evening canapes menu can be found here)

There was some free entertainment in the form of a gentleman (dining with an older couple who appeared to be his parents) having an obnoxiously loud work phone call for a good 20 minutes. Another couple seated between us continually whinged to each other in Japanese about how loud he was, how terrible a son he was, whether they should say something to the staff, etc. They never did raise it with the staff, but it was bad enough that I was surprised the wait staff didn't tell him to STFU.

The following morning I went down to Oscars shortly after 9am to find a 30+ person queue snaking out of the restaurant and into the reception area. The below photo was taken about 10 minutes after I queued up with another 10-15 people behind me.

View attachment 274982

The queue hadn't moved at all in the ~10 minutes I waited, so I approached the front desk (a few metres to my left) to ask if there was any chance of using my breakfast benefit as takeaway or in-room dining - the answer was a big fat NO with zero apology or empathy shown. I double checked the exec lounge was also not open for breakfast - NOPE. I'm told the queue is because the hotel has high occupancy due to the public holiday... so why not open the exec lounge 🙃

So I missed breakfast and went straight to my spa booking at 11am. Given the 20% off spa suite benefit and the SGD$128 FHR credit, I opted for the $160SGD 60 min Yuan Qi massage. The spa facility was very nice, the massage table comfortable and slightly warmed, the massage itself was decent but not worth paying full price for IMO. (the going rate for a 60 min massage at a higher-end place less than 5 min away is $70-80)

View attachment 274986

I thought the $128 credit would perfectly cover the $160 minus 20%, but I neglected to consider GST so was about $9 out of pocket.

View attachment 274987

Checked out just before 4pm, no issues paying with the "card on file" (Aspire) and received the 14X meaning a total 16766 HH points earned - 3609 x 2 (base & diamond bonus) + 1000 (myway) + 2500 (2022 points unltd promo) + 6048 (aspire 14x)

I received an automated survey email yesterday and left feedback about the breakfast situation, received an email from the guest experience manager apologising and asking me to contact them directly for future bookings to be looked after.

If anyone's planning to stay over the next few months, Conrad has a standalone website clearly explaining what facilities are open, if bookings are needed, etc.
I love that hotel and suite !!! That was my last ever hotel stay in February 2020 before Covid hit.

Property: Hilton Adelaide
Status: Diamond
Room Booked: Standard Guest room.
Rate: $261
Received: Junior Suite.

Same as earlier post, had to manually check in to receive my vouchers in lieu of the exec lounge not open, although this time they weren't quite as generous. The breakfast was very good, but the canapes that I get with the vouchers at evening were very small.

The Junior Suite was quite large relative to the normal rooms I always seem to get.

Treated me well, nothing fantastic, nothing bad so was good.

As an aside, and I'm staying there next week, I've been enjoying the 1000 points per visit as a Diamond member and 2500 points for every stay in the promotion that runs out soon.

Property: Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, California

Room Booked: Recemption 2 Queen bed room

We kicked off our US vacation with a stay in style at this beautiful property. I had long planned to finally propose to my partner of 16 years at this very hotel after having stayed at the neighbouring Beverly Hilton in the past. After indicating this special occasion to the management beforehand, the team went out of their way to make this special occasion even more wonderful. We had used Hilton points for this stay which I’d say is amongst the best use for these points possible. Unfortunately, there’s always only rooms with two Queen bed configuration available as redemption but as Diamonds we were kindly upgraded to a King room with views of the Hollywood Hills. The rooms are absolutely breathtaking, with lots of art work throughout and amazing outdoor balconies to take in the views. Actually, the “standard” rooms here are about the same size as suites in other properties so we were very happy with it. The mattress was one of the most comfortable during our entire holiday and service throughout the property absolutely impeccable.

I chose the roof top restaurant for the special moment and this choice could not have been more perfect. My now fiancée broke into tears and said yes before I could even finish the question and proposing with views of the famous Hollywood sign in the background was just amazing. Staff were also so lovely up there and kept calling us the “two lovebirds” (even the following day!) which was just so cute and special. Moreover, they were all perfectly attuned to having two men proposing to each other which unfortunately even in this day and age is not the norm everywhere. The proximity to WeHo obviously helped and we used this to catch up with a dear old friend for dinner on Santa Monica Boulevard. When we came back to our room, we were welcomed by a lovely sweet amenity with “Congratulations” in chocolate writing and the entire room was decorated in heart shaped rose pedals and little tea lights (see pictures). I hadn’t planned this at all so it was an extra surprise for the both of us and just so lovely and wonderful that we both broke into tears with happiness. Moreover, we tend to carry some stuffed toys with us (I know, I know…) and in our absence they added a cute little teddy bear in Waldorf Astoria bathrobe to our existing crew, which was such a thoughtful touch.

All in all, we couldn’t have chosen a better property! Before I forget mentioning it: The roof top pool was stunning as well and due to the rather chilly weather that weekend we greatly appreciated the hot tub next to it. I have nothing but praise to say about this property and already know where my next HHonors points will be spent at once we’re back to LA! Special thanks to Antonio, the hotel’s manager, who went above and beyond to make this special occasion so extra wonderful for us!

This was for check-in on Easter Monday booked a few months ago before any certainty of border reopening. Previously they have only had the executive lounge open on Friday and Saturday nights but just a week or two earlier recommenced executive lounge canapes service 7 days a week. They also advised they are planning to resume breakfast service in the lounge in a month or so time.

(Prior stay to this was 1 generous plate of canapes in Samuels on Mill restaurant with unlimited drinks from the executive menu between 5-7pm.)

The room upgrade was visible in the app the morning of check-in and had digital key around 1pm before arrival at hotel ~2pm. Digital Key in elevator can be bit hit or miss so got physical keys later on in the evening.

I would not recommend this hotel if you are thinking of going to Disney theme parks. The WA Orlando is a Disney partner and you'd be allowed to have early entry into the theme parks which is a great advantage. Unfortunately the early morning Disney shuttles (which are covered by the resort fees or waived on points bookings) don't come early enough to make this worthwhile.
Secondly, the shuttles first stop is at the Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek next door. You're going to have a "fun" time waiting if there are a lot of people wanting to go to Disney early in the morning. I would recommend walking to the Signia shuttle pick-up area if you don't want to miss out.

Nice SE corner room 1821.

Got the 2 plates canapes and 8 drink vouchers at check-in as has been going on for sometime (for use 5-7pm only). Only used 4 drinks for this stay so +4 vouchers to add to my stockpile.
There was a period last year where base spirits were taken off the free drinks cards but glad to see the drink vouchers allows base spirits again.
Asked at reception about executive lounge re-opening and was advised they are really keen to do it and hopefully in 2 months time but the limitation at the moment is lack of staff and staff recruitment.

Just posting this back-dated stay. I keep forgetting about this thread and then a few weeks after a stay think to post here so I'll try keep the momentum going now with future stays.

This one was a valentines stay - I will never go out to restaurants on "event days" with premium pricing on valentines/mothers day/fathers day/etc - but a perfect excuse to book a Hilton night instead with a complimentary evening service!

Morning of digital check-in room had been upgraded to King Executive Room, but never received digital key. Upon arrival to hotel reception was offered whether we would like a room with a bit more space, so I said sure and can we do anything on level 2 (swimming pool floor and perfect weather for it at the time) so ended up in a Queen Deluxe Room on level 2 which has a small separate couch/desk space away from the bedroom. Reception staff member was someone I had seen on previous stays and I had previously named and recognized them positively in the random post stay Surveys. Regardless always been exceptional service from staff across all departments.

Parmelia are always consistent with $3.50 coffee tax at breakfast.

Both nights was 1-generous plate of canapes per guest and unlimited drinks from the samuels on mill executive drink list. Samuel's on Mill restaurant was buzzing and fully booked for valentines night. Was a great atmosphere of activity I hadn't seen at Parmelia for a very long time on that night.

Does anyone have any experience of the Hampton by Hilton in Frankfurt city? I have never stayed at a Hampton before. The semi-flex rate is €90 vs €148 for the nearby Garden Inn. It appears that the Hampton automatically comes with breakfast, which makes the Gold perk of free breakfast redundant. I’ll be flying in quite late but they both seem fairly close to the central station. I’m a bit uneasy about the road works that appear in recent Google pics of the Hampton.

Stayed two nights. The interior of the building is really interesting, although the entrances are pretty ordinary. Breakfast was the normal Aust Hilton affair, but with a bonus self-juicer that attracted all the children in the dining area. The service was glacial - both mornings there were slow-moving queues snaking their way across the lobby waiting to be seated (even though half the tables were empty). I think they must be struggling for hospo staff. The mattress had slumped, which I reported to the staff on check out. Their response was “it’s probably the topper”, which was disappointing. Why not just say “we’ll look into it” or similar, rather than basically saying I’m wrong. I’ve never had an uncomfortable mattress at a Hilton chain before. I’ll stay elsewhere in Brisbane next time. Life’s too short to pay $260 / night for a slumped mattress.

My stays have been 95% Hampton by Hilton this year (30 or so nights so far). In Poland and Germany I found the breakfast offerings to be more varied/better than what I've had at some Hiltons. The beds are comfy. You know exactly what you're getting and they're all modern.
