Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Status: Diamond

Date: 14 Oct 2015
Booked: King Hilton Guestroom
Received: King Relaxation Suite

Welcome card, 1 x 750 ml bottle of still and 1 x 750ml bottle of sparkling Mount Franklin water, plate containing 4 x macarons (? Gold amenity for a Diamond member)
The suite included 2 rooms, a large balcony and a bath but I would prefer the relaxation room as the beach views are spectacular.

Breakfast in Salt - asked the waitress if Diamonds receive barista coffee and was told 'yes' with a huge smile.

Why are the macaroons a Gold amenity, perhaps they are the amenity for all, as you noted previously:

Hilton Colombo

Booked king corner suite
received king corner suite

used online check in where there were 24 suites available and was in the mid level coughpy view floor i usually get
Looked and theres top floor better side
I'll use that !

arrived at check in after the dodgiest hotel driver ive had ever , If I'm in the passengers seat the white line in the middle of the freeway should not be going under my feet
Arrived , easy check in to where the guy took me to my room telling me i had the best room in the house
Hello i thought they upgraded me to the presidential suite ( next to the room i booked and as it turns out interconnects)
Very effusive 15 yo who checked me in took me to my room telling me id been upgraded
"hang on this is the room i checked in online"
"Someone else wanted it sir but we gave it to you"

So it seems ive been upgraded!

usual water bowl of fruit and a prepacked hilton 6 pack of chokky

There doesn't seem to be many people here , the continuing renovations and the genaral tiredness of the place must be getting to people

For those less familiar with good side/ better side is it possible to post room numbers or geo direction

my bad
the better side looking at galle face
Photo on 17-10-2015 at 8.47 am.jpg

the other side looks at the port which when i first sated here during the war had signs on the wounds saying you weren't allowed to take pics of the port

How can you argue with logic like that? :p ;)

Did you get the welcome coughtail on arrival? I must admit, that hotel is on the ordinary side, but I didn't mind it. It should be good when the renos are finished.

swanning
i was through check in in record time
so quick they forgot to label my bags which hadn't made it from the car by th time i left
i had to go back down and get them

the renos are on sri lankan time
none of the rooms have been done they are doing all the restaurants first
we hope they'll be done by december!

Nice picture. Quite a bit of construction around the Galle Face Hotel since my first DONE4 in 2005

I know what you mean, I'm pretty sure my driver fell asleep twice on the highway on the way to CMB at 4 AM during my last trip to the Hilton Colombo. After that, I made sure I kept talking to him until we reached the airport.

A good driver really is the secret in Sri Lanka. We booked one (on recommendation) to take us CMB-YALA and he was excellent. I could not fault his professionalism, his knowledge (he was basically a private tour guide), his fee, his friendliness, his thoughtfulness (preplanning stops that actually had toilets that are usable) and most importantly, his driving ability. We didn't get him on the way back as we decided to fly the return leg......except UL decided the brand spanking new international airport wasn't profitable and cancelled all flights, which meant we had to book another driver as our first one had taken another client. What a disaster! Ended up having to change vehicles (at Galle Fort) and the second driver (loose terminology, that) had no idea of the way back to Colombo. He was on a fixed rate so he wasn't running up the tab, he just had no idea and as for driving ability....honestly, the bicycles were going quicker than we were! To compound issues, Lisa ordered some jewellery that was being hand made (excellent job....and cheap too!), but it was in an "out of the way" location and trying to find that again (to pick up the finished pieces)was certainly an adventure.

Double Tree Cairns
HH Gold
Booked: king with city/mountain views
Recieved: as above (but with a bit of a view of the water)
Welcome note arrived while we were at dinner. No water bottles.
Late check out declined due to being 'fully booked' but other AFF members were given a 2pm check out.
Best bit was the unlimited cookies.

Property: HH CNS
Date: October 2015 (1st stay)
Status: Diamond
Booked: Hilton King room
Received: Hilton exec room (?) facing the building opposite, so no view.

Standard welcome note and two bottles of water. There was also a small jar of honey. On checkout I told them I don't eat honey, but there was one again the following stay.

Breakfast was just ok. Overcooked omelette, and a coffee tax. I declined the coffee, but was offered one without tax after I commented to the duty manager, although that did not seem to be standard practice.
